Immobiliser issues with new GT1
hi everyone this is my first post so please go easy on me! great site by the way.

Ok heres the deal, bought a punto GT1 blind off one of my mates (shes a girl), havent seen the car yet but she says it wont start, apparently there is an immobiliser problem. now i have tried to get more information off her but she isnt the most mechanically minded person. She says the car was running great but one day she went to start and it was dead and the code light is on the dash. i have told her to check battery and all common things and she says its none of them. I have looked around and a guy on ebay said he has a ecu, barrel, keys and immobiliser but its gonna set me back £175.... now before i go paying that i was just wondering if i have any other options of if anyone might have a set lying around which i could purchase. i am collecting the car on friday afternoon so if anyone has any other things i could look (that might be simpler) for that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Heya mate, sounds like fun

Firstly, is this the yellow Abarth kitted GT on Ebay/Pistonheads? (I was eyeing that one up :) )

Definately sounds like an immobiliser to me. My first question would be, do you have the red key for the car? If so then try the following:

- Put red key in ignition & turn on,wait for code light to go out(about 3 secs)
- Take out red key & put one of the blue keys in,turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
- Take key out & put other blue key in,turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
- Take blue key out & put red key back in again, turn ignition on,wait for code light to go out(3 secs)
- Take red key out.
- Try both blue keys & make sure engine starts with them both.

(Above information copied from one of T14086's posts in the Bravo/a section)

If you dont have the red key then there are two options:

Option 1
Buy ECU, codebox, lock/ignition barrels, keys (at least red key) from a donor GT.... Dont forget the locking petrol cap ;) . There is someone breaking one on PSC at the moment, he might be able to help you out, click here to see.

Option 2
PM a guy on here called Reddy4Bed, he specialises in unlocking ECU's and recoding keys. He should be able to either recode or remove the code altogether from your current ECU for a reasonable price thus leaving your current lock/key set usable.

I hope this helps and good luck with the car (y)

Just got the car and i have realised its a non standard immobiliser with a fob. When you plug the fob in the engine wont ackonwledge it.. does anyone know if these can be removed easily??? cant see a make on it at all. i guess it would just be wired into ignition and live/earth somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

My after market immobiliser is attached to the battery +ve terminal, in line with the battery, taking it out is only a hassle due to the way mine is strapped in but can be removed from the system if needed

but ignition will turn and i can get power to everything?? could it maybe be wired to the strarter motor at all??

Could be wired to starter motor or ignition barrell loom (or more than likely both).

It might be worth while getting an auto electrician out to try and strip the immobiliser out of the wiring loom completely.

well i am a electrician (not auto) myself so gonna have bash just wondered if there was any 'obious' places should start then if all else fails will call auto-electrician. just gonna take every wire from aftermarket one out and try reconnecting. fingers crossed.

I know you said you cant find a make on the remote fobs but is there any coding at all that you can run through Google to try and match to a product?

Alternatively try posting a picture of the fob and see if anyone can identify it.

Good luck mate.

Thanks again everyone for your help will have a shot tonight and report back tomorrow. Cheers
