Hey everyone, I'm Gav and i live in South Yorkshire, I'm saving up for a Punto mk1 at the minute, i'm 17 in about a months time, i study art and design at college (full time) and work at Currys part time, although i do more bloody hours there!|)

Obviously i'm wanting a 3 door, and i'm looking to pay upto around £1500, ermmm what are the most common things to look for when buying a Mk1 Punto, my dad's a mechanic and will be helping me to choose one but i'd just like some advice from you lot, who probably know the main problems that Punto's have...;)

I've done a few V.Mods of what i want my Punto to look like, i dont think that bodykits suit the Punto at all, especially deep skirts as the Punto is already quite a tall car [}:)]

Hi Gav.

Well done on choosing Punto. Definitely going to get the most bang for your buck. I suggest you go to www.parkers.co.uk and buy the excelent car check for the 94-99 Punto. It's only £3 and has all the knowledge I can't squeeze into here.

If your dad's a mechanic he'll find the Punto a breeze. It's a real old-fashioned DIY special underneath, and you can do most of the important jobs yourself.

Where I live down south, £1500 would get you an early plate Punto like mine only, but I have a mate up in York itself who got an S-reg 60s for like a grand so keep your eyes peeled. If you fancy it, go for a slightly older one with better spec. I reckon the S is a bit too basic, I have an SX and it has the stuff I like, like central locking and electric windows. Avoid the L-reg ones and the younger M-reg ones which don't have an immobiliser, no matter what price they're going for. The 55 is also group 3 insurance, whereas the 60 is 4 and it goes up from there, which at your age is really going to count (groans as he remembers!)

Once you've found a decent Punto keep the mods tasteful;) I agree, most of the kits go OTT, this is an Italian beauty here, not some bloody Nova:D I like the look of those ones in your pic, especially the delocked red one. V. tasty. Bear in mind the cost of all that though, but then I'm sure you know what you're getting into there!

Good luck in your search. There are loads of Puntos around (they were well-built!), so remember you're the boss. You don't have to settle for a tatty one.

EDIT: Before I forget, you've probably been here already but just in case: www.autotrader.co.uk - register and make use of all the search features when you look for your Punto.

Cheers for the great welcome Pritch, much better than some of the other forums, i'm not new to this kind of thing as i'm a really well known member of corsacrazy.com, been a mod. there since it began :) i've always liked both Punto's and Corsa's but i'm definately going for a Punto as the Corsa is simply, the new Nova lol...

Yeh, i'll check out the parkers site, and i've been looking on Autotrader for about a month now :)

I certainly agree with you, bodykits just dont suit this gorgeous italian motor, they spoil it and i think your spot on there...
I'm fully aware of all the costs of these mods, even though they are subtle, the cost can soon mount up, what i'm going to start off with, are a set of 16's or maybe 17's, get it lowered, and get everything colour coded, cant go wrong there, after that i'll get saving and get more things done, induction kit, smoothed boot, de-locked, subtle spoiler, cadamuro splitter, backbox, should look pretty good :p

thanks again

Gav

fiats kit is rounded and wider than most so dose not make it look tall! (know alot of kits do)
17 do make it look taller ! and splitters with sharp edges! if u want something suttle there is the turin kit! no harm in looking pal!

A girl phoned me the other day and said, 'come on over; nobody's home." I went over. Nobody was home.
