So the number of groups has been increased to 50. Has anyone's insurance risk increased or decreased?

My Bravo has gone from 10 to 20 - so it's exactly doubled.

Bunny's Croma has gone from 12 to 25 - so it's more than doubled.

Father in law's 156 has gone from 14 to 28 - so exactly doubled.

That means the Croma is slightly higher risk now than it used to be compared to the other 2 cars.

Is a doubling of the Insurance rating associated with a doubling of cost or just an excercise in granularity for risk group assessment?

For example, Group 6 quotes I had were quite wide of each other when I last searched for quotes, not just one price.

I guess you'll know when your renewal notice arrives Hellcat!

Lets face it, nothing is gonna come down much cost wise, especially where motoring is concerned!

GP MJet Gp 6 in old money to Gp 18 in new money WTF!

Surely if there is new groups and a new range then the price of insurance will be adapted so the new numbers match roughly the old ones???

So if everything is doubled then insurance group 4 old money will cost same as insurance group 8 new money?

Is it not just a way of them having more groups to be more specific?

Yes, for the majority it's the same cost - but your group number is doubled. But for some they are above or below the expected group.

I would imagine the main reason is with cars getting more powerful and expencive - you need to be able to differentiate between a group 20 Scoob, and a group 20 Aston.

Lets not get into the standard to standard again as we both know which is quicker :)

 We do Matt... well I do! ;)

TBH I'd have a TJet in a heartbeat if things were different. :p

remember though that even if they double +1 that may make them better off as there are now 50 groups not 40 (20x2).

Really to compare them you would need to take the old rating times by 5 then divide by 2 (20x5=100/2=50)

ie. hellcats bravo was group 10 10x5/2=25 but its only group 20 not 25????

I suspect its to allow them to group them better and also charge more.

Ah not always better. The extra 10 groups beyond the 20x2 are to fit some of the more expencive cars in - think Merc CLK and Bimmer M class. These were previously Group 20 but are now group 48/49

If mines gone 10x2 and someone elses has gone 10x2+1 then they're worse off than me providing mine stays the same.

If mine actually reduces then I'd be happy.
