new head unit not working with bluetooth

hi im a bit stuck i have just fitted a new stereo because i dont have blue and me just bluetooth and i want to plug my ipod on fitted easy bought the steering control adapter that work fine but bluetooth wont work properly can call but no sound.. is there a solution to this anyone knows off? or is it a fault? quite annoying didn't expect it to be a problem. any help much appreciated cheers
