New Fiat model..

i think the linea is the best looking car to use the new fiat family style. plus its in an uglier than average class so it comparatively even better.

wow i said something nice about a new fiat. someone take a photo quick!

Don't care.. What's important is if it gets a 2.4 multijet... :slayer: :slayer: :slayer:

Hope you are siting down reading this, but the 5 pot is going out of production when the new 16v engine comes on line. Said to be state of the art, powerful, and with a diesel version too. 5 pot is costing Fiat/Lancia to much money to make.

the 1.4 turbo isnt really exciting me. if its only a 1.4 it must be working at pretty much full whack to get the kind of output they're quoting, which means getting more out of it wont be easy. having a 5 pot is special, a 1.4 turbo isnt.

I can't be costing them too much more.. It uses a lot of the same components (pistons, valves etc) as the 4pot. So as long as you have the block (not changed much since the 125TD) then the rest can't be that hard to develop.

The 4pot might be as or more powerful - but it can't be as smooth as a 5 pot.

I'm impressed with the Linea not only for it's handsome stylingm but it also bucks the trend towards ever wider cars. Yesterday I read up on the new Pug 207 that is wider than the already huge 307! The Linea is narrower than the Stilo and new Bravo, despite being longer. Roll on the estate/weekend version to the UK since that's what I want. I'd be happy with the 1.9 MJTD and for my wife to like it a semi-auto box.

i think the 5 pot's waekness is fuel consumption and servicing costs and fitting it in an engine bay well enough for people to work on it without having hobbit hands and mini tools.

Basically the 5 pot takes too long to service and its costing Fiat money.
It takes up too much bonnet space and we all know its a pig to work on. But all new 16v will be state of the art with more power [read 200+ bhp] and much much better economy. Its a sad day when it happens as 5 pot in petrol and diesel forms is a pretty impressive engine.

Being as narrow track as you suggest, get it wrong and it may be; 'Roll in the estate/weekend version" ;)

What about the Alfas? They've just brought out new 20v 5pot engines.

Maybe Alfa will keep the engine. There cars will have bigger chassis to accomodate the engine.
There is an "all wheel drive" chassis coming out 2008 which the Lancia Delta HPE will use. What engine will this have? New 16v? Chassis will also be used on a high powered Abarth version. Perhaps the Bravo? Rumour of a Coupe replacement is still rumbling especially as a mule car has been seen testing.

from the rear it looks rather like a vauxhall tigra and audi'ish from the sides and front, anyway nice car yeah, anyone know what engine sizes it comes in?
