Hi, I've just recently bought myself a fixer-upper (hopefully).
2016 1.6 maxi with 125k on the clock. Previous owner reckoned it needed new injectors, but heres the list of issues I've found so far.

1....
Rough on start up, white smoke, diesel knock on acceleration. This stops when its warmed up but diesel knock still occurs at low rpm while accelerating under load but shuts up over 2k rpm.

Had a mechanic look at this and he reckoned on injectors too. Had them whipped out, sent off for test and they confirmed 1 was good, 3 were shot. BUT, one was correct and 3 were the wrong type, confirmed by Fiat. So we threw some second hand injectors in and the van is back to how it was previously. Could be that the 2nd hand injectors aren't great, I'm going to try some injector cleaner on these next before going any further.

Now, the mechanic plugged his laptop in, cleared all the codes, sent me on my way for the day and checked for fault codes at the end of the day and it was all clear. After replacing the injectors he had loads of fault codes, including EGR valve issues, then lost his connection and wasn't able to reconnect again. He reckons there's an ecu issue.

2....
The throttle body is running constantly. When the ignition is turned off, the throttle body can be heard whining away. This will eventually flatten the battery unless the BCM fuse is pulled. With the fuse refitted, this stays off until the engine is started again.

3....
Now this might be nothing, but the dashboard computer that displays your trip MPG resets itself every 10seconds, which seems way too keen. May indicate a computer issue.

4....
Heater blower not working. Checked the plug and replaced the resister as a quick, non invasive course of action. Will check the motor itself next.

5....
Yellow triangle lights up when I flick on the lights. What concerns me is the fiat manual claims the DRL should be a W21W 13Watt lamp, yet the W21wlW lamp is 21W. Typo in the manual or a specialist lamp?

All in all its a decent van! Plenty of power when its warmed up. Had it pulling away in 4th gear up a steep banking with no hesitation.

If anyone has any input to the above it would be greatly appreciated.

My next course of action is to fire through some chemicals to clean the injectors and EGR, and see where that leaves me.

Number 4 turns out to be the blower motor thats knacked. Looks like its had water ingress somehow. There was corrosion on the resister pack and on the fan motor armature. Might try slithering it in contact cleaner but will most likely replace it

Make sure scuttle drains are clear ;)

Any overflow goes straigh through the heaterbox :(

Ah, ok. Was worried I'd bought a previously drowned van, but there's not enough evidence to suggest that. The slight water ingress from water leaking in somewhere looks about right. I'll check for blockages. Might even take it for a jet wash tomorrow and see if it comes through the ducting while I have the fan off.

Many thanks!

A general issue with Fiats is the tiny wiring. Not only the wires are minimally dimensioned but the connections as well.
If mine had been drowned before i'd consider it to be a good idea to check all (!) electrical connections which could have been under water (and all the others as well).
On my 223 (which not has been drowned as far as i know) i recognized multiple electr(on)ical issues. After cleaning the contacts and fixing one almost broken wire i felt fine.

Thats a good point and well worth a try for what it will cost. Sounds like a job this weekend. Thanks ??
