new disks

hi guys, ive just ahd new disks fitted to the front of my bravo, upon driving down the road after picking my car up i noticed the brakes werea bit crap, well actually were worse! ive bin told tho that u have to wear them in, jus wana c if this is true? if it is how long does it take to wear them in? thanks

ok thanks fellas, i gotta go on a road trip i think cuz i had them changed for the mot which is up on wed, ive been told to avoid harsh braking 2

also does any 1 know if they weren't worn in by mot timw would the tester take it into account that they are new disks or would they jus fail it any way?

as before be careful bedding them in, if you do alot of harsh braking they tend to turn into the annoying squeaky brakes later in their life not to mention they will be less effective. as for mot you should be ok, they will have bedded in more and will certainly give a reasonable result on the brake tester, do take your reciept for the brakes with you though just in case.

no i didnt get new pads, i was told just the disks were worn, does this ake any difference?

YES!!! GET NEW PADS NOW!

Your old pads will be worn to the shape of your old discs. ie they will be fooked too.

i was told that the pads weren't too bad but would need replacing in the near future, so ur saying that if i dont get new pads the disks will be knakard?

Your old pads will take ages to wear down to suit the new discs and they will unevenly wear the new discs.

Get new pads, they are not expensive.

Your old pads will have bedded to the same shape as your old disk Groove for groove.

This would give close to 100% contact at all times.

Changing for new disks means that your new disks will have no grooves so the pads will not have as good contact with the new disks. This will give you poor performance in your disks.

Also, It may mean that your new disks will take shape of your old pads making them wear more. This will mean that your disks will not last as long.

As tom said, Always change to new pads when you change the disks.

ok ill def get the pads aswell, ive done near 100 miles since the new disks have been on with the old pads do you think ive knakad the disks? for mot reasons i need my brakes sorted asap could i expect good brakin from some new pads or does that take a while for it to bed in, thanks guys the advice is apreciated

New pads on new discs take a few miles to bed in.

Will take longer than 100 miles mate.

It doesn't so much knacker the disk, all it will do is give you less braking performance and could possibly decrease milage from the disks.

If the discs were bad enough to need replacement then the pads will be fooked.

Brakes should take only a few miles to bed in. If they don't they need replacing.

im confused! my haynes manual says new disks take a 100 mile or so to bed in, so i dont no. im gona just get these pads and hope that my brakes will be ok, cars do my head in!
