only quibble is, that the rubber ceals will wear quicker as there are corners in them.

What took you so long[?]

The real iceman, just wondering, what is the best material to make the cone out of?

I can't see why a quadilateral is any better than an oval... just looks different and must be easier to fit.

sorry 4 my delayed replies. squares are more ridgid shapes than ovals, its a fact, corners give ridgidty. and when the cone is pushing air it needs to hold its shape, an oval can distort easily.
square cones are a good way of geting punch into ur bass, along with low frequencies.
as for cone materials 4 cones, the lighter and more ridgid the better, kevlar, titanium impregnated woven material

HAHA! James!!! So icecold guy, what is wrong with the sony polygon (pentagon or hexagon?) ones? They bring all the benefits to what you have said...

Weird then that we all have round speakers in everything (that practically ever existed) if a 4 sided one works best...

Oh and the best material is wood; soaked in sake of course. ALl speakers within 2 years will be made in this way. Didn't know that one did you? Better get reading your new scientist then. Your old crappy speakers will be useless compared to these.

Oh and why am i so horrible? I feel I am forced to be following your constant rudeness towards a number of products owned by people within here.

My first signiture (a lot of thought put into it): If you can't find the switch to switch your fogs off I am sure I can help you! Damn fogs.

because then u will hav less cone surface area, (if u make a square with 10" sides and triangle with 10" sides the triangle will hav a smaller area) plus there is no need 4 a cone that ridgid to be honest.
so that is the balance ridgitity or large cone size to move more air and get deeper fuller sounds.
plus as i mentioned earlier coners in the cone mean, corners in the rubber surround, corners in the rubber surround will wear quicker, wear means getting rid of ur speaker sooner.

seeing as circles are pretty efficient, corners are normally bought because people like the novelty value.

I would definitely think that with a speaker, the shape is more down to novelty value and market appeal, afterall, surely most of the rigidity comes from how it is installed, plenty of Dynamat etc[?]

cos a triangle has a lesser surface area than a square of circle, and surface area is also wot u want from a speaker (exception- tweeters) triangles are also an akward shape to fit into spaces
