I've now sorted the problem with the thermostat but noticed there was a small drip coming from around the waterpump. Then this morning it turned into niagara falls.

It only happens when the engine is running and i've checked all the pipes to and from the water pump but cant find anything. The water pump still seems to be pumping water really well by the volume being pushed out. the water seems to be coming from the back of the pump where it mounts to the block. I cant see anything else it could be around that area. any other places to check?

should i order a new pump or take the old one off and possibly fit liquid gasket? or has anyone got any other ideas?

For the cost and effort involved in bodging it, I'd just replace the pump for a new one. Make sure its got the correct theeth for the belt before fitting it

Replace the pump. The seal around the shaft has failed, it really can't be bodged effectively. As Kristian says, check and double check the pitch on the pulley of the new one matches and consider a new belt (and tensioner) while you're in there.

not really but its best to know.

I had a problem with overheating so i'm guessing the pressure has caused that damage.
