Hiya, hope Stanford hall was fun. I did drive past on the way to Belgium and oh my what rain!!! But again it's about the company.

I now have the car back here in the UK and I am pleased with it. The body is in good condition with no real rust but will need a redo this winter for my liking.

I am going to put a 123 ignition system unless people can recommend other wise.

I am also looking at other seats.

Here are some pics

Notice the "ABA" on the head, any ideas?? I can also see what seems like a STa on the side aswell.

Any clues???

Wife is impressed really !!!

Quick update,

I got the carb serviced by D&B in Nottingham and man did it need it. At £40 I thought this was reasonable. I also bought the pertronix kit from Middle Barton a bit pricey but it worked first time now the engine runs great, starts straight away and revs it's tits off.

I did find that the breather on the rocker has a bit of pressure in it. The previous owner had added a oil catch and this was nearly full. Is this normal? I am putting another one myself, something a bit prettier than a washer bottle. However I am bit concerned as how much pressure there is but it doesn't seem to do anything to the engines performance.

Any advice on this would be appreciated

Bit puzzled by this - can you clarify please?

Oil catch...... ??

Photos might help! (y)

Thanks Dave,

I've tried removing the dip stick to see if it made any difference but doesn't seem to have. I think I'll get it on the road and run it a bit before contemplating an engine strip down. The oil level does look a bit high so will replace that and get it to the right level.

Thanks again Dave I will try and get some of it here in the UK.

Here are a couple of pics of the revamped engine

Actually that the new one I fitted :) so I would hope it looks cleaner :).

I had a couple left over from when I tuned my Harleys ( funny that being 2 cylinder air cooled too) . Ordered the oil additive on ebay so will have that put in next week. Car is nearly ready for MOT and registration. Engine is really sweet very happy with it.

Great news, the car passed its MOT but it did come with some advisory notes:

- oil leak from steering box
- oil leak from gearbox near gear change shaft
-slight slack knuckle/front uprights.

So V55/5 in with the dvla and hopefully a UK registration plate next week.

Any suggestions with the what seems to be some seal going wrong on the gearbox and steering box.

Re: New (again) to forum - weber 30 dgf

Hi Chris , was just looking at this thread again and noticed you posted a pic of an engine with a carb identified as a weber 30 dic (purple car). I was just wondering if it might actually be a weber 30 DGF instead (see attached jpg of 30 dgf and 30 dic for comparison). These seem to be the carbs that came with the panda 30 head as standard and seem very similar to the 30 dic. I was wondering what the differences were between this and the 30 dic and if anybody knows which was the better carb.

Thanks,

Colm.

Colm,
You may be right - well spotted.
Both are progressive opening, twin thoat, down draft units but differ in the construction details. I think the DIC was mainly used on the Fiat 850s (817 - 903cc, 4 cylinder) and the DFG on the smaller Panda 30 (652cc, 2 cylinder) engines though I'm not absolutely sure. I've definitely seen 30DICs on Panda headed engines, so as long as the jetting is OK, I guess you can use either.
I found a couple of schematic diagrams that I've attached.
Chris

The Weber 30 DFG was also fitted to the water cooled , 2 cylinder , 704 ccs Fiat 126 Bis :)

Also found the following at http://www.fiatparts.com/carbs.htm

7) 850 carbs are known problems ( the beloved 30 DIC! They named it right.) Before your were stuck with its poor performance.
I have found a replacement. Its a
WEBER 30 DGS. it has a slightly different top cover so original air cleaner can not be used.
You can swap old 30 DIC top to continue to use old air filter. $315.00.

Seems like the permutations are endless :)

Chris, I did come across that guy when I was googling the 30 dic. He seems to know his stuff and he doesn't have a very good opinion of the 30 dic which made me wonder although it seems to be a popular conversion on the 500.
Certainly the variations are mind bending...DGF, DGS, DIC.....!!

Colm.

Colm, I checked the carb which is fitted to Abarth's engine and it has 30 DIC 2 stamped on it.

Matt

Thats good Matt. If you decide you no longer need it I'd be grateful if you gave me first refusal.

Cheers,

Colm.
