General New abarth 500?

My girlfriend is looking at an abarth 500 on Friday. It is an 09 plate with about 36k miles on the clock up for £9999.

That's main dealer money.

Anything I should be looking for in particular?

If you're buying from the trade, a decent warranty thrown in.

If you're buying privately, a chunk of ££££ off - it's about £1k overpriced for a private sale (and even then it would need to be absolutely immaculate).

Good luck - and enjoy the test drive :D.

As JR says, this seems very expensive for a 2009 model. Make sure that the service history is complete (preferably dealersip) and that the 36K service has been done and book stamped and check that everything works OK.

Obvously, going on the reg it is over 3 years old so has had an MOT so ask to see the advice sheet and if anything has been mentioned then ask for it to be corrected before collection if you do decide to buy and don't be fobbed off by a 3 month warranty, insist on a proper 12 month one with full breakdown/recovery included.

Good luck and nice to have you aboard.

ps. Couple of links below that might prove interesting for comparison purposes:

Jealous is definately the word i'd use! Luckily i've persuaded her to put me on the insurance so i can steal it when she's not looking and go out for a spin to remind myself how fun petrols are to drive!
Cheers for all your help! Yeah it is from a dealer, and naturally we'll still be looking to knock a nice chunk of money off the price!

If you've got that amount to put on a second one why not go for a brand new one on the 50/50 scheme?

You could other get yourself a high spec one ( even a c ) or do the deal and have a couple of grand still in your pocket.

Just another option.

Good point to mention. I have just got mine on the 50/50 scheme. and took delivery within a week as the car was in the showroom and the colour I wanted. There was a trade off on certain items, but came with other things I required so not a bad deal for me. Hope you get sorted with what you want.(y)

Still at least 5 weeks here, though the dealer did test me with an offer of one with standard wheels that would only be a 2 week wait.

Pay 50% now ( with cash or p/ex or mix ) then after 2 years pay the balance, hand it back or use the equity to put down on another one.

Abarth Advance Payment Plan "50/50"
Vospers Abarth is offering a new payment plan that allows you to drive away in a new Abarth with no interest and no payments for two years other than your initial deposit.

How does it work?

You pay an initial deposit equal to approximately 50% of the purchase price of your chosen Abarth 500, 500C, or Punto Evo. You then enjoy two years' motoring in your new Abarth with no monthly payments. At the end of two years, you can choose to either:

Renew - choose a new Abarth from Vospers and use any excess over the Guaranteed Minimum Future Value (GMFV) towards your deposit
Retain - to keep your car, you need only pay the GMFV
Return - simply return your car in good condition and within the agreed mileage.
Remember, there's no interest to pay at any stage!

If you already own an Abarth, you may be able to exchange it now for a brand new Abarth with nothing to pay - not even a deposit - until two years' time!

I put my 500 TA in as part/x received a cheque for £1500 as the value was above the 50% deposit. Pay the balance in 2yrs time interest free in which time this cash is in an ISA(y)

Cheers for that. I put it to her and she obviously likes the idea of a brand new one, but her issue is getting the extra 7,000 saved up over 2 years to pay it off.
Wish i'd known about this before i spent my pennies on an mjet. Has this scheme been around for long?

Oops, I thanked accidentally  Touchscreens!

It does sound a little crazy to trade in a car you own against a car you won't own even when the two years is up... Maybe I'm missing something, but if having the car for two years is 50% of the value, what's it worth after four years? :)

Here in NZ there is only one way to own an Abarth 500 - $43,000 up front - I remember that was once the price of a Stilo Abarth and I bought one three years later for $23,000... Suspect I might do something similar again!

It's guaranteed minimum value. After my 2 years I'll owe £8500 on mine, currently 2 year old c's are going for at least £13000 meaning I'll have around £4500 equity on mine to put towards another, Or I can pay the outstanding.
Or if my finances turn to crap I can walk away.
If I was to keep my current car I don't think that would get me a part ex figure of £4500 in two years.
