Recently replaced a piston on my 1400 bravo. Put the engine back together and all has been fine for a few weeks. Just last night i was driving home from a friends and had only had the car running for a few mins and started to hear a slight knocking noise coming from the engine bay. After the auto choke switched off it went away. Ten mins later i was pulling into a street and dropped the clutch to change gear and the engine just cut out and as you all know power steerin' in a nightmare with no power. I did not bother to get the timing set back up by computer yet as i ain't had the time although the marks met fine and it seemed to run perfectly even though a fiat mechanic told me it is impossible to get the car running ok after you have had the timing belt etc off (my engine was in a million pieces when i fitted the new piston). Has anybody else came across this prob at all. the car ran fine this morning although i only had it running for roughly 20 mins. Is it in that crazy get you home mode? I'm starting to panic now so any info no matter how vague will help loads.

Also the fiat dude say's you cant get a re-map of the ecu on a 1400 12v is this a pile of crap or is he speaking the truth?

I know i can count on you all

THANX

If it cut out when you dropped the clutch, but was fine the next day I would suspect a dodgy electrical connection, possibly near where the clutch assembly runs. Can't be too serious if the engine is still running, even if intermittently!

thanx but can you help with this?

thanx nick,

There is now a slight knocking noise coming from the head so i'm gonna take it off and see if the oil feed pipe is blocked. Does anybody know if there is a lack of oil in a bravo will the ecu cut the engine out?

Fault code

I would think that if the ECU caused the engine to stop deliberately, there would be a fault code stored in the ECU. Getting the code out requires a reader. Would it be worth asking your local friendly Fiat dealer to check if any codes are stored in the ECU? (unless you know anyone who has a fault reader?)

thanx boss

Called my local fiat garage and they want 53 quid to hook it up. Gonna book it in tomorrow hopefully.

Look's like he saw me coming!

Thanx again mate.
