need to replace engine on Brava 1800 16V

Hi guys,
I just destroyed my engine by sheer stupidity, too embarassed to say how but need help. Has anybody attempted removal and refitting yourself? How hard is it? Haynes says you drop it under the car but I am buying a crane that looks to me as though it would lift it out upwards, any reason why not try? I know lots of questions and more will come as I start so please help if you know. Thanks Lightning

I see no reason not as long as you remove the bonnet and all the drives underneath as well as the usual stuff.

yep it will come out the top m8 by any chance did you start it with the cambelt off?

No,bit of a long story as to why but I thought the oil light switch was faulty and carried on driving until I got a horrendous noise as the last drops of oil struggled there way through the engine!

Thats what I get for being honest! Made good progress with the engine out today, only broke one air duct hose so far. Getting the rad out was tricky, you have to remove the exhaust manifold heatshield first, which it doesn't warn about in Haynes. Will post pics of my progress if anyone interested?

how does the heat shield manifold come out?

It is the shiny metal cover that sits over the exhaust manifold, three nuts easily accessible, one on the oil dipstick bracket and the other two either side.

almost blew up my mk5 escort before......was on the motorway doin about 60 and it wasnt picking up so i dropped it to 4th to try to pick up a bit........thing was i missed 4th and hit 2nd.......never heard a car sqeal like that.....ever!!!!!
