basically i currently own a fiat seicento sporting but im currently in a band and i need more room to put my gear in, i would also need to put other peoples gear in aswell (only one so far with driving licence even though they are all older)

i was considering a pickup like a Volkswagen caddy or a ford sierra p100, i then found the fiat strada and thought, hmm that would definitely be different, but then in the back of my mind were the opinions of fiat from other people, rust and unreliable are but a few, and this would very much come into play as im only aware of the fiat strada being the only fiat pickup, which went out of production years ago/ dont get imported to UK

so is the fiat strada worth looking for? (hard to find) or is the volkswagen caddy a better shot?

all help is appreciated

i couldnt find any of them, plus i dont want a hearse hah, im probably going to be getting a vw caddy and sell my fiat :(

i must say, the fiat vans/estates look fairly ugly hah

i cant find any fiat seicento vans, are you sure they exist?

near the airport (hellesdon), i was up near lowestoft the other day but cant remember why hah

im going to make a thread in a bit in the non fiat section asking for suggestions for a car, preferably 80s, low insurance, which has the ability to carry two adults and roughly 2-3 guitars, so it gives me an idea what to look out for

nice, a couple of my mates go there, all i know is that you can do farming there hah

MEP is farmer John.

:D :p

One thing that you areforgeting is the insurance on a van is going to be astronomical.

Ah, not quite true.

You compair Clio car vs Clio Van insurance costs (and same for punto etc) and its alot cheaper as its a comercial (spelt wrong I think) vehicle, and insurance is cheaper as they're not normally owned by the young boy racer types don't you know ;) :p

I used to own a pug 504 pickup & despite it being based on the 504 car, insuring it was a nightmare. Many companies wouldn't touch me, stating it was because I wasn't a tradesman. In the end, I managed to get insurance through Co-op - but still had to pay more than I would for the 504 car.
OP, have you considered the Fiat Doblo?
Only recently I have had a moped in the back with the single seat folded up, I have also carried a full rubble bag (1cu metre) of shingle weighing a ton. I have gone on hols with 4 adults, 1 large dog, camping gear for the family as well as BBQ and 15kg gas bottle and the doblo, being tall makes a fantastic towcar (my trailer is ex-BT van) (1.9jtd 105bhp) - and the best thing of all, for me, is the fact that mine runs very happily on a mix of 2 gallons used veg oil to 8 of diesel (summer) and 1 veg to 9 diesel spring/autumn - so lashings of almost free motoring (45mpg town).

Strange, like I say people at college say they have no problems (although I do wonder just how legal half of them are ).

Insurance for commercials isn't impossible, just stupid. People who are buying these 4x4 crewcab pickups will be paying stupid money for insuramnce but after paying millions for the car anyway...
I recall an argument with the insurer - he asked for the exact engine size - I said 2.3, he said 'over or under' I had to check a few places but it turned out to be 2304 (or some similarly miniscule amount over the 2.3) and that took the insurance from group 9 to 18 and the best quote he had for gp9 was £1000 which then went to £2k for the gp18.
Ended up with the co-op who accepted it was a pickup but were prepared to treat it as a car on the understanding that I didn't use it for commercial gain - I was doing a lot of work on my house so used it to ferry rubble to the tip. I think I was on 65% NCB and paying under £500 fully comp.
