I want to get my 1600sx bravo a turbo conversion can anyone help............

1600SX?

Dont want to be a killjoy on this one but I wouldnt start with a 1600sx! You will need to uprate almost everything from suspension, brakes, exhaust, gearbox etc etc.

The conversion on the turbo alone is going to cost £2,500 and I would then add at least another £2k for everything else. Is £4,500 worth spending on a 5 year old 1600sx Bravo? I would have thought selling the 1600 and buying a HGT would probably keep some of the cost down as the suspension, brakes, 'box etc etc are already some way to what would be required.

I am not having a pop at 1600SX' before anyone leaps at me just questioning the starting point.

Agree With Nigel

i dont want to be a spoil sport either but i think it might not be the most econonically sound decision spending all that money on what is in effect a mediochre engine and probably a few years old?? Im not trying to be rude or insulting as i own a Bravo 1.2 with less power that yours and i started to do it up and and realised i wanted more speed MUCH more speed. So i am selling it and buying something that is MUCH faster than any BRAVO although not as stylish !!. i have learnt from this forum over the past year that the BRAVO is NOT a fast car by any means even the HGT as i have heard is not really that fast.. they are just fairly nippy and look very sexy!!

i think if u do want to start chipping the engine or whatever... u should at least start from the HGT ???

the expression "flogging a dead horse" springs to mind
although in a more litteral sense!!!

cheers

Hi James

I went through this 6 months ago on my X reg 1.6 Bravo.

Basically I looked in to the following options here is my story.... hehe

a) put a turbo on the 1.6
b) have a 2L 20v coupe turbo fitted
c) Nitrous

I opted for Nitrous in the end and am very hapy with the results.

To have the 1.6 turbo'd envoled serious work like Nige says above. I got a range of quotes for the Turbo from the companys that I trused they all said £4000 and above.

For about £1500 you could have a low pressure turbo fitted to the 1.6 its cheap because the low pressure turbo dosen't run much boost so you won't have to have any of the engine strengthened as the extra strain is minimal. (you'd be looking at about a 25 bhp increase though) not alot but certainly an option.

For the fiat coupe 20v Turbo fitting I was quoted £2000 thats for the work and I had to suply the engine.

Let me know how you get on bud
