the better half has a peugeot 106 N reg 1.1 and last night it decided it didnt want to run.

it will fire up but then just die out after a second or two. it sounds right when it fires up so no missfire etc. if you fire it up and then trie to increase the revs to keep it going it does the opposite and chokes the engine.

it is very low on fuel so that could be the problem but surely it would stop firing up right in the first instance? any ideas on what it could be? my mechanic is on strike  so need to diagnose/repair it myself.

any help greatly appreciated (y)

its no coincidence that i was going to suggest low fuel rail pressure before you even mentioned the low fuel situation.

Working for a Pug main dealer as I do, the most common faults are down to the Stepmotor on the front of the throttle body. When these start to play up they cause lumpy running and stalling etc.

cheers again guys. when it starts it isnt jumpy but then just dies off. even when it dies off i wouldnt say it was lumpy. i havent put any more fuel in it yet but will do asap as im sure its as simple as that.

on a side note the top of the engine seems to be getting covered in oil?? i have noticed what i think is a split in the oil breather pipe off the cams. could this be causing it all?

if you mean the pipe i'm thinking of then it is only a crankcase ventilation system leak, so it wouldnt stop the engine from running.

sorry i could have worded it better. with the pipe i was referring to causing all the oil everywhere. and it is everywhere, all round the engine bay! even over the radiator at the front.

yes jug its that pipe.

the pug giving us problems again. :bang:

this time it is loosing oil fast. i would like to say it is burning it or the sump is cracked but the truth is it is throiwing it all over the engine.

the whole engine is covered in oil. i am guessing there is a leak somewhere and it is being blown over the engine via the fan.

any ideas people? :worship:
