Hello, i recently got my mk1 Punto (first car) even though i havn't passed my test yet I want to get a basic ICE install over the next few months bit-by-bit.
I can't stand 6x9's so just wanted some comps, sub and amp. Bought these yesterday online as part of a package deal:
Multi-channel 4/3/2 Channel bridgeable trimode Class AB amp (JBL GTO4000)
JBL GT4-10 10" sub
I know these aint brilliant but thought they would "do the job", I aint gotta clue ow to fit em atm but wondered if some1 knew what output i would be getting from that sub? I read somewhere it needs to be bridged?
Thanks in advance.
by the sounds of it, you can bridge it, but will still be left with 2 channels. This is the same for my amp so thought sod it and bought another sub to fill it...
Basically you will have 4 sets of outputs on the back of the amp. in the manual it should tell you which of the terminals you should connect together to bridge the channels. For example, on my amp i had to connect the positive wire to the positive terminal on channel 1, and then the negative wire to the negative terminal on channel 2. That then bridged channel 1 and 2, to give them the combined power.
As for power output, from a couple of quick searches, it looks like you'll get a feed of about 100watts RMS when you bridge 2 channels together. otherwise you'll be having 4x50watts RMS.
If you have got a spare channel at the end, you will have 3 choices:
1. Buy another sub the same and bridge the last 2 unused channels.
2. Run some components of the unused 2 other channels that arent bridged.
3. Just leave them empty just incase you may want to use them another time.
EDIT: Oh, and you said you didnt know how to fit them... Hopefully in your kit you should have all the wires and fuses too. if not you will need to get them. Autoleads do such sets available from many many places.
But basically to fit it, you will need to run a power feed from your battery to the boot or wherever you have your amp. Also you will need a ground. If your amp is gonna be in the boot (as i'll assume from now on) theres usually a grounding point near one of the rear lights which is a large bolt with lots of wires off of it. You can tap into this no problems, although you may need to put a larger eyelet on the ground wire to your amp.
Right you now have the basic power wires set up. Next you will need to run the RCA cable and remote wire (if your amp and headunit has the ports) from the HU (Head Unit) to the amp.
Next, and lastly, you will have to cut and strip the speaker wire from the amp to the sub. The subs probably have screw on terminals so this shouldnt be so much of a problem.
Voila, you should now have your amp working. If your amp has a remote terminal, but your headunit doesnt, then you may have problems with your amp switching on. In this case you may need to tap into a low voltage power source and put on a manual toggle switch. If your HU doenst have RCA outputs, then it is possible to still wire it up, but my advise is to just scrap it and get a new HU with them on. They are cheap enough ones out there now that do so theres not really any excuse
Hope that helps, and ive probably waffled on so let me know if theres stuff on there that wasnt very clear..
