Hi,

My nephew is looking at a car he is interested in buying but we need to know a little about it first.
I know this is the wrong forum but can anyone help?
It's a "Fiat Punto 55s 1.1 petrol"
I think the price is around £1000 or £1200 but not 100% on this what price do you think it might be worth and is there anything we should be looking out for?
Does this car have the Fiat red key?
Thanks in advance.

Rab.

well, first of all this is a bravo forum, not punto. Anyways, what year?? how many miles? Does it have a history of services done?? It should have a red key if it's an older model

you might want to look at the milege and the age. Would hope the mileage is under 60k for a 1.1.

check the value out at www.parkers.co.uk

Check the oil around the oil filler cap doesn't look like mayonaise (if so needs new head gasket). Check for excessive wear on the gear nob and steering wheel as this normally means its been clocked.

4 good tyres? Good exhaust? Drives OK - no funny noises? Engine revs ok and sounds ok on reving? Gears go in ok? service history? MOT (dont buy one with no MOT)? TAX? the list is endless

Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

My best friend has a Punto 55, 5dr. It's all electric etc, but I'd rather have a bravo. She's trading her's in for a Bravo too.

The puntos have too many problems, and not as strong a following as the Bravo. Als, the brakes are crap and the bodywork tinny, unless you go for the higher spwc models.

without sounding biased, let your nephew buy a Bravo 1.2. He will not regret it. Plus the 1.2 engine is better than the 1.4 i reckon!

Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

Sorry lads i ment to say that it's an "m" reg but i don't know the mileage yet.

Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

What sort of price would we be looking at for a 1.2 Bravo....... preferably an "sx"

Rab.

Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

mileage is very important!!

youd never get a bravo 1.2 for that kind of money - infact i think youd be very lucky to get a very rough 1.4 for that also.

Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

Dont bother with an 'M'. My mate has an 'N' reg and it's falling apart.....despite regular trips to the garage. NO expenses spared stylee if you get my drift.

Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

A fiat punto was my first car it was a 95 n reg an it had the red key with it it is realy a must to make sure you get the red key with it an i think that going price it must be about an 95 n reg

Re: Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

If not a Punto or a Bravo for this money what would you buy?

Rab.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

A Corsa (B) 1.4 GLs.

The Corsa SRi is insurance group 6 and 1.4 in either 8 or 16valve guise.

I might ger lynched for giving you this advise!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

How about keeping it in the family so to speak...

A Cinquecento Sporting...

You could pick up a decent one about M/N reg for £1000-1200, and £1500-1600 would get you one of the later P/R Reg ones...

Group 3 Insurance
E/W, C/L, S/Roof, 1.1i Fiat engine :)
with 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, and a service history.

Just a thought

rover 100 1.1l, its a great fun car..might be below what youre looking for but you can pick decent ones for about 500 quid...pretty nippy if you rev it. bloody cheap to insure and run too.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

DONT get a rover 100. bloody awful cars!

I know i'm stupidly tall with stupidly long legs but when i went to look at one i couldn't get through the door let alone get my legs under the steering wheel. awful, shoddly built, poorly finished, badly thought about car!

I ended up with an uno :)

Just my opinion anyway

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NEED A BIT OF ADVICE FAST....PLEASE

I assume we need a low insurance group car. Get a citroen AX or citroen ZX (volcanes expensive). Both cheap to insure, even the AX GT i think is low insurance. The ZX body doesn't rust and the frame is very sturdy and withstands hard crashes.

Check this zx out. Its my last car (miss it!!), was a 1.4i with 75BHP -standard!!! Thing is it only weighed 950KG so was fast . What u all think
