Got the car back, what a difference, can't believe the power for such a small engine. I took it to another garage to check it out. The mechanic was a 500 expert who talked me through the engine hooked up the computer and confirmed the work had been carried out. He has had quite a few cars in from other garages who have put in the wrong oil, he has drained replaced with no further problems from the cars. Also told me that them engines use oil, can use about a litre about every 1500 miles.

Glad you seem to have it sorted. The Twinair engine is a great performer. Your mechanic is right, they do use a little oil, but not too much. Mine uses about 1/4 to 1/3 of a litre between changes, which I have done annually, or after I've done 10,000 miles. Consumption will probably vary between individual engines, so worth keeping an eye on that dipstick, which incidentally is very difficult to read when the oil is new and clean!

I've got 2k up on my TA now and the oil has darkened slightly and much easier to see on the dipstick, I thought the level was a bit low before but now that I can actually see it it's about three quarters full. Sounds obvious but what I have noticed though is that you really have to have the car on level ground and even a slight slope has a big impact on the reading. Must be due to the shape or depth of the sump I guess

Important to check oil when the engine has cooled down to allow levels to return to 'at rest' levels- helps avoid false level readings.

How do you guys check the level on the Twinair? As the dipstick is part of the screw cap oil filler, do you check the level from when it is screwed full on, or do it with cap unscrewed? Hope this makes sense.
