Nicole Joyce is an industry expert.
It isn't out of order because what I have said is if the injury is nothing then don't try and hype it up. The only people that win in such cases are the lawyers. You get pittance!
1.6 billion is a massive amount even in the insurance market. It works out that if you assume all 20 million people pay insurance (incorrect assumption but means that the figure is more in your direction) on average, each person in this country is paying out £80 per year to people who claim in this way. £80!
You're right however in saying it can be serious and it can bbring long term damage. However, the liklihood is low and people just make use of our growing compensation culture. What you don't realise is that the individual gets a very small amount and the law firms are the people who make the money out of it.
If I had an accident and I wasn't bad of course I wouldn't claim. There would be no need, it was an accident. Unles some guy came and shunted me on purpose to hurt my neck or was driving completely negligently I would be even less likely to do it. I am not that sort of person and it isn't worth the hassle for a small amount.
It's not selfish by the way, again, all I said was that if it isn't bad. People have a tendancy to exagerate things like this (not saying you would ghostwkd) and it is bad for the insurance industry.
We generally don't pay high prices for insurance to help us recover £200 damages if we get a case of whiplash and pay out £3000 to a lawyer, the money goes mainly on payouts. I can't get figures for the past 2 years but as I said previously, the industry had some really bad times. Yes, I hate the fact I have to pay £900 a year for something I hopefully won't even use but I also know why £900 is a required figure.
Once again, ghostwkd, I don't want to offend you in what I am saying. All I am trying to get accross is that unless it is a serious injury, the claim wouldn't bring you a nice figure and will only cost you in the long run.
Hope your neck is feeling better, that would be the best outcome!
