Ive told you what this job... consists of.
In future iwont waste my time.

I trusted you more than them.. thats why I came here as I was so confused. I also said I didn't want to cause arguments. Car will be going to a different garage for it to be done at a total cost of £113 as my belt is only 12 months old.

Thank you for explaining things oldhammer becuase if you hadn't I would have ended up going to the guy for £80.

If your mech ...sayeth he can do this job for 80 sovs' let him crack on with it..

Icouidnt do one for that...and I do them to pass time ...not profit.

Ask your man at the garage...what drives the cam shafts..

If there is no cam belt to remove I will eat my slippers...

I was tempted to let him do it anyway but don't fancy what could follow seeing as he clearly read and 'knows' the wrong thing. Car is going to a different garage now and will stay far from the other guy. £113 for just the gasket to be done. estimated an hours work I think he said? Belt was checked before quote and he said tht it wouldn't need changing.

I get miffed off with hearing this...
How does he know the belt don't need changing...
Does mystic meg work there...

If your doing jobs like this on these engines its best ...to swap the cam belt and tensioner at the same time..
If it let's go they will worm there way out of any comeback as you will have give them the go-ahead to reuse a worn cam-belt and tensioner.

Hey Guys,

The car is finally back on the road!

I have had the tensioner, belt and gasket all changed . When the cam cover came off we saw that one of the bolts had been threaded :bang: so that was helicoiled before going back together.

Car is running nice and smooth with no oil leaks .

I also just put new wipers on all round, new dipped beam (thanks for the advice on here about moving the fuse box) and new side lights .

Now on to new doors, rear bumper and bonnet! :slayer:

The car is finally back on the road!

Car is running nice and smooth with no oil leaks .

Wheel issue was sorted thank you! Just turns out i wasn't doing it up tight enough on that particular wheel :bang: :S Been fine since.

It passed it's MOT last month too.


HOWEVER! Sunday afternoon I stopped at a roundabout and the car died... POOF... bye bye headgasket! Car is now sat on the drive way waiting for the mechanic to come and charge me a couple of hours labour to take it all apart and tell me the extent of the damaged and cost to repair it... :bang:

I found exactly the same as my car on sale today and was tempted to buy as it was in better condition body wise (and obviously engine wise) than mine and only £650, askd the guy to see it but it had been sold

Nope, that was the rocker cover gasket that was changed.

Car was pretty much fine. There was a very slight missfire earlier that morning for about 5 mins and it passed and was fine after that.

That is what has been suggested. Like I sy, mechanic is coming on tuesday to have a proper look and I will know more then. I hope it is something simpler.
