Punto (Mk2/2b) My Orange MK2 Punto

Introduction

Hey!

So back in December I got an orange me 2 punto as my first car. It's a 1.2 16v Speedgear Automatic Yr 2000, now has 61k mileage and I bloody love it. I never thought I would want to do much to it but after browsing the forums and seeing what others have done I have certainly changed my mind! It is going to be a slow process but I am going to make her something else.

I will add photos tomorrow when I can get a break from the madness!

Here is a list of things I would like to do, if you can think of anything else you think would be a nice addition then do let me know. I will post general updates about the car here but will most likely make posts about various things from time to time!

Essential:
Change gearbox oil
Install rear lighting loom due to reversing lights not working

Desirable:
Alloys - not sure what ones yet!
Debadge and remove side strips as they are already peeling off!
Sun strip on windscreen as I hate the sun visors
Carputer (will need a thread of its own for that one!)
Possibly new bumper and side skirts

So here are the pictures. I took her for a wash this morning but she is so grubby that I am going to have to hand wash as the jet just didn't do good enough.

I noticed a few more paint chips today which is annoying so once I have the side skirts and bumpers etc I think I may send for a respray!
I must know nothing about cars then.

Ive told you what this job... consists of.
In future iwont waste my time.

I trusted you more than them.. thats why I came here as I was so confused. I also said I didn't want to cause arguments. Car will be going to a different garage for it to be done at a total cost of £113 as my belt is only 12 months old.

Thank you for explaining things oldhammer becuase if you hadn't I would have ended up going to the guy for £80.

I apologise if it seemed I was questioning your knowledge.

There is no arguments..here dude its a forum at the end of the day.
If your mech ...sayeth he can do this job for 80 sovs' let him crack on with it..

Icouidnt do one for that...and I do them to pass time ...not profit.

Ask your man at the garage...what drives the cam shafts..

If there is no cam belt to remove I will eat my slippers...;)

I was tempted to let him do it anyway but don't fancy what could follow seeing as he clearly read and 'knows' the wrong thing. Car is going to a different garage now and will stay far from the other guy. £113 for just the gasket to be done. estimated an hours work I think he said? Belt was checked before quote and he said tht it wouldn't need changing.

Thanks again for the advice.

I get miffed off with hearing this... :(
How does he know the belt don't need changing...
Does mystic meg work there...

If your doing jobs like this on these engines its best ...to swap the cam belt and tensioner at the same time..
If it let's go they will worm there way out of any comeback as you will have give them the go-ahead to reuse a worn cam-belt and tensioner.

Hey Guys,

The car is finally back on the road!

I have had the tensioner, belt and gasket all changed (y). When the cam cover came off we saw that one of the bolts had been threaded :bang: so that was helicoiled before going back together.

Car is running nice and smooth with no oil leaks (y).

I also just put new wipers on all round, new dipped beam (thanks for the advice on here about moving the fuse box) and new side lights (y).

Now on to new doors, rear bumper and bonnet! :slayer:

Fingers crossed it'll all be fine from now on! Did you sort your wheel issue out? Got to say, I still miss my old mk2!

Wheel issue was sorted thank you! Just turns out i wasn't doing it up tight enough on that particular wheel :bang: :S Been fine since. (y)

It passed it's MOT last month too.

HOWEVER! Sunday afternoon I stopped at a roundabout and the car died... POOF... bye bye headgasket! Car is now sat on the drive way waiting for the mechanic to come and charge me a couple of hours labour to take it all apart and tell me the extent of the damaged and cost to repair it... (n):bang:
