Seicento My Little Red Sei...

Introduction

Well this is my pretty much standard Red(ish) Seicento...

I've had it since September last year, was at 71,000 miles and we're now up to 78,000 and now going stronger than ever :)

I haven't done much yet, mainly due to my insurance being so high since I'm 18.

Had an oil change & an ITG Foam Filter. Also got a new clutch and rear wheel bearings along with a new handbrake cable.

And of course I had to fit Abarth centre caps and black/red floor mats ;)

I've got some drilled discs and new OMP Sport pads to go on sometime soon.

(Sorry about the picture quality, I used my phone)

I think Wolf Direct Racing did have a race punto themselves, I think all the P75 heads were done to a similar/identical spec. @Lecook has the 8v head from a 600m engine which appears to be the same also. Whether this was another head RB put on it temporarily as it was being rebuilt or the actual head used I don't know. I have an 866 cam in it which looks to be a regrind, no idea on what spec though.

The gearbox was put together by Wolf as well, won't know it's the gearbox 100% until it's actually in the car but I'm pretty sure it is.

No idea on the spec of my cam either. The punto mine came from was dark grey with white compomotive th wheels on it. Was a very tidy car but worth more to the previous owner in bits. A shame really.

I fitted the engine but with a standard cinq box for now as I was not keen on having the discomfort on long journeys.

Where are you guys finding all these Wolf motors? They cost a fortune new, even if (from what I understand) most of them never ran properly.

It sounds like your flat spot is more obvious than mine, which if it relates to the higher lift camshaft, it would make sense as I have an 866 and you have a C&B 280.

This is annoying when it's cold since it happens to be in the exact rev range I drive in on my way to work each morning...

It makes sense that the hotter cam increases the effect of the flat spot. I drop a gear and let the engine rev a bit more - doesn't seem to hurt economy much. Besides, my engine has no torque below 3.000rpm, heh.

You'd likely hate my cam as much as I love it!

Once I get on with DET3, we'll see if it clears up.

The bloke we bought them from was of relation to the bloke who owned the farm/barn/land whatever that Wolf Direct were operating from and when Richard Beaty cleared off and everyone had collected their cars/engines this stuff was leftover, loaded into the red seicento and taken back to his to build a track car which he lost enthusiasm with.

He had no real idea of what he had and we bought everything he had that was of any value, nothing left but standard parts aside from the wheels and OMP roll cage.

Well it's been an eventful weekend!

I've not done much apart from going to and from work in loads of traffic since the P75 went in so I decided it was time to go for my first 'proper' drive. So bright and early saturday morning I was up and out despite it being rather wet on the roads. I had roughly a 100 mile blast around South Norfolk/Suffolk's back roads. It was a fantastic especially once the roads had dried. :D

The car was filthy by the end of it so it got it's first wash in a few weeks. (Although today's weather ruined all my hard work :( )

However after a couple hours of being driven like I stole it a couple of faults popped up, luckily nothing serious.

First of all the radiator fan, after struggling on for a few more months, has finally packed up. Somehow it's burnt itself out on roughly 70% of a rotation. If it's stuck on a battery it will spin but only start in certain places so it's dead.

Today after much effort in the pouring rain I re-fitted the not so good universal 10" fan that was previously on there since I don't have £70 or so for a new mpi fan and nowhere is open on a sunday. Now I can get to work and back. I intend for it to be only temporary but I can see it probably being on there for some time

Secondly on my way home the crank sensor died and left me stranded, this is my fault though not the car's. The wire on it has been split for a good 8-12 months and I've left it since it just kept on working... Thankfully @Lecook took a 40 minute drive down with a spare (y)

Also the exhaust is blowing even worse now, it was blowing already but on a couple of occassions there has been a downpipe/tarmac interface situation thats made it a little worse (n)

I got this along with the engine and gearbox so I gave it a good clean up, looks miles better now:

One good thing that came out of my little blast on saturday morning is that for reasons I don't understand it's faster now. Not sure whats done it but it gained some power, it could be that the ecu has adjusted a little more or some silicone sealant has been dislodged from somewhere it shouldn't have been. Either way I have no complaints.

It's running very nicely now, pulls really well all the way to the top of 4th and makes a good noise doing it

Bill looks fecking epic now hes lowered.. ( BNB bill and ben?? ;) ) I really need to start planting some more cash into mine.. poor old girl hasnt had much love recently.. although.. I think ive accidentally stopped the sump leaking :s lol

Im actually pissed that youve convinced me to go back to 8v... but I think itll be for the better :D

Shouldnt have sold those springs :p although it just gives me the excuse to go to coilovers when my shocks or springs ****e themselves

Also wish id come for the drive now.. meh maybe next week/month lol

If you turn that aluminium tube round you can easily extend the breather tube and ditch the breather filter, thus saving your lungs and complying with Construction and Use Regulations.

And stop oil dripping from the breather filter, and making a mess.

Neither of those things are a problem, at the moment anyway... But I do intend to get a tube to put on it before the MOT

Today I took apart the rev counter because it's stopped lighting up, giving it a tap used to sort it out but now there's nothing. Everything looked to be connected up and nothing was loose so I've ordered a new bulb, hopefully that'll do the trick :)

I fitted the expansion tank I've had sat around for a little while, it certainly looks alot better, also helps that I can see the coolant level now :p

Another weekend - some more minor changes...

I managed to drop a screw down into the trim section surrounding the handbrake so had to pull the whole piece out to get it, on the brightside I found a sticky £1 coin and sprayed some white grease on the gear linkages so it's now smoother than ever

I pulled the inlet off again and fitted the longer studs from the mpi head as the P75 ones mean't the nuts only just went on with about 3 turns. I also put the metal inserts back into the inlet, pinched the paper type P75 inlet gasket from the other engine and refitted the mpi inlet at the right height this time and it's sealed up perfectly :D

It's now all round much smoother to drive and pulls higher up the revs than before  however upon testing my new found power the engine decided to relieve itself of some of the oil all over the bay... thankfully the oil is nice and clean so it was quick to clean up. I'm still unsure of where exactly it all came from but it was down both sides of the engine, mostly cambelt side but none down the back and none down the front aside from dripping on the oil filter. There was also plenty on the underside of the bonnet

I've since taken it out for another drive and it hasn't done it again, I've no idea what to make of it....

I know the cam cover has been leaking from the front cambelt side corner so I set about taking it off to reseal but discovered the bolt wasn't done up at all, the other 3 are tight so I sorted that and will see if that cures it.

Beforehand I had a look at the breather pipe to see if it could be causing excess pressure. The pipe itself isn't blocked but with the filter on I can't feel any air coming out, yet with it off I can. This along with the fact there is no smell of oil whatsoever with the filter fitted suggests not enough air is getting out. So I've bodged the old blue pipe back on again, that will hopefully reduce the pressure and get through the MOT. :)

I will see how it goes this week, hopefully no more leaks but I think I will find myself resealing the cam cover again anyway....

(That hose isn't kinked although it looks it)

I noticed my throttle body butterfly has '186' engraved in it :D
