Punto (Mk2/2b) My First Car named Eleanor.

Introduction

My Build Thread

Hey guys i was half way threw 18 when I got my first car. I chose a Fiat Punto 1.2 16V Sporting over a Saxo (y). Cutting a LONG story short i had numerous troubles trying to get this car,Colour,Sporting,6 Speed gear box etc etc. First time on Auto Trader lady was veyr nice was going down to see her on the Saturday. Phoned her up again on the Saturday to let her know In was going down with my dad just after lunch "ohh... im sorry to tell you I sold the car last night" me -> :bang:. So after a other 4weeks waiting a other sporting appear :slayer:. This time was in a car lot so bound to get it. Problem was though it was 400miles away. But my dad said we would travel as I was  about the last time. So phoned the garage up atleast 4 times on the way down. Got there at 4:30. I began looking around for my punto.......... "thats funny i can see a fiat Punto??" So spoke to the manager guy. "Hi im looking for a fiat Punto MK2 Sporting in grey?" "Oh sorry m8 i sold the car at around 4:00. that Point I nearly punched the guy. The guy i was on the phone with had finish his shift at 3:30 and didnt tell his boss we were coming down!! so basically we drove 400miles for a bag of chips. Like the film Gone In 60 Seconds trying to get the GT500 somthing ALWAYS happens.

Three weeks later!. Phoned a guy in Auto Trader and told him i was coming down in the morning. I explained to him the trouble i went threw and he said he would keep the car for me. Picked the car up from the guy I had this face the whole way home -> :D.

THE MODS!!!!!! :slayer:
Believe it or not I already had a picture in myhead exactly how i wanted it too look. Gave me things to think about while trying to get the car. Im studying AutoMotive Refinishing at College. Which is panel beating and spraying. Following that course will be doing a busines course. So i knew i was allowed to work on my car for free/ GET PAID FOR IT :D LOL!.

Few pictures of the car when I bought it paid £1500

After a week of getting use to the car. Time to get the picture in my head onto the car. I began working smoothing out the front bumper. P40 was used to fill the bumper with Bodyfiller and Top Stop applied to finish off. I hacked sawed out the front bumper struts to create a giant mouth.

After around 2 weeks I began on the audio Full vibe install, Flip out DVD player hooked up to the PS2 little bit of Need For speed during lunch ;). Then i was told by my GF and parents to calm down on the spending LOL. so did FOR like a WEEK!. Blue footwell Neon gave the car a nice look during the night. Set of AutoGuage guages filled the A-Piller

I had a wee break from modding due to college exams and extra shifts at work (n). But wait...Extra shifts?? More MONEY to spend on the car!! :slayer:. Decide the stupid arial! had to go :D smoothed that off. On the way hoime from college a BMW went past me and i seen its black roof. My brain then clicked :D BLACK ROOF!!. I bought the vinyl of ebay at £60 and got a local guy to fit the vinyl for me.
How the car is looking at the current time

New alloys will be arriving soon. The auto Guage piller pods are away now though shown in the above pic. Also recently bought a HGT center console. So you can probs guess where the guages are going ;).

Comments and suggestions are all welcome
well the bonnet bra is off. Decided to keep it if im traveling long journeys on the motorway or up north somewhere. Know what lorrys can be like. SO general it will be used for long distance travling. Might be starting the rest of my boot build if i get a chance. Gave the inside a valet. shampoo the seats and all that jazz. Oh.. Fluffy dice hanging from the rear view now :D

Boot Build Again

Well thats the amp box thing ma bob done. Now onto the...Subwoofer!. Got a other punto boot carpet to go against the back seats also should tidy it up a bit.

Re: Boot Build Again

That looks awesome brad, how long has it taken you to do all that? Looks really professional

To be fair hasnt taken me that long. Its getting the time to do it. I have college full time and work saturday. Meaning my only day off is a sunday. Thanks. Takes a bit of time sanding it smooth. But i use a DA at first then by hand. Has a better finnish at the end. Just use my touch up gun to spray the base and clear down. Then TA Da sorted :). I could have made a easier boot build. But then where the fun in that :D

build isnt to my taste as such. may just be cos i like symmetry with stuff like that, but either way, looks fantastic (without sounding like im contradicting myself - u know what i mean. ;)) and can see a lot of effort has gone into it. (y)

Yeh man totally know what u mean. Im not happy with my exhaust anymore. As its not symmetrical lol. I decided to do the boot build way ive done it as i see far to many 2 subs each side. Or 2 amps with subs middle etc. + i think looks simple but effective. Not to over the top. Just a sub and a amp to run it :) But i do think Blue neon to the boot light so the back and the bottom and blue light up. Though dont want make it mega chav punto :p

What u think?

naaa dont put blue lights in the boot mate will look **** (really thats my next thing to do and dont want to copy you:p) hahahaha

Tidy work as always Brad, good to see someone doing it all properly. Attention to detail is everything to me and im glad you are doing a good job of it :D

How long is the fiberglass process?

Does not take too long. I gave the fleece a coat of resin first. After that 1st layer i applied 2 coats of Fibglass matting. Thick matting as its the sub side. Now im onto the process of Bodyfilling. I tried the sub out today. Just in the resin form. Sounds really good. Might add some fluff inside the box. But has really good base already. Really pleased :D

Thats my subwoofer box fibreglass completed. I tried the vibe sub in the box just with the fibreglass sounds amazin! sounds exact the same as the box and has really good bass!. Must have just about got the air space about the same. Pritty chuffed. Will sounds deeper when i get the bodyfiller on which is in process. While the box was drying i decided to add a little touch to the boot. Wire some 12V blue LEDS into the boot light so when you open the boot the leds switch on. Still got to cut and fit the rear carpet to the back seats. This is how the leds look.

What you guys think? Cant wait to get the sub and amp boxes in! Going to do the same idea but on the rear seats so the leds shine from the picture below + down the back seats with the boxes at the side?

Just found a left over Vibe sticker from my speakers. Thinking cutting a window around A4 size in the middle of the boot carpet. Mount perspex behind it. Stick the vibe sticker on top. With couple of Blue leds to light the perspex up?

Think look kl?
