Tipo (Classic) My First Car - A mk2 1.7 Diesel!

Introduction

Forgot to warn dial-up users...There are a lot of pics here, so it'll take a while.

Here are some pictures of my Tipo, taken today. As soon as I can move her across a bit I'll giver her a good clean & take some better pics (be able to get all way around her)

The front end - Paint's a bit oxidised, bit of T-Cut should sort it!

Side view - I shall be getting some trims for these shortly, as soon as I find some oldish original Fiat ones going cheap (want them to be like the ones shipped with the Tipo originally)! Alloys are tempting, but not feasible as I'll be a new driver so don't want to bash them in.

A few interior shots, as you can see everthing's in pretty good nick...few scratches on dashboard, bit untidy due to me being in progress of sorting electrics and broken hazard light...new one be fitted soon!
By the way, the stereo was only £35 new, bargain!
She's only done 86k miles! That's the real mileage, not been clocked or anyhing. This engine's got years left so long as I take care of her. Spring's from broken hazard button :( Battery went & speedo jumped to 20, strange cos it hasn't gone back down:confused:. I hope it sorts itself out or I may need new one!
My Engine, had a quick clean yesterday, needs new fuel lines. Out of curiosity...anyone know what that cylindrical thing is to the right of the power steering oil cap? Wish I had the manual lol!
I think the head gasket looks really nice and clean...and silver!

So, what do you all think? In pretty good all-round condition . When I'm done she'll look awesome :slayer:
shouldn't take much to get her up to scratch. t-cut on the bonnet will bring it up a treat. speedo sticking not a problem just give it a good old slap on top and it should sort itself out, mine gets stuck sometimes and i hit the top of clock cluster then the needle shots round to 160mph then drops to right speed lol.
you need to lose that grandad steering wheel cover:yuck:

dont know what that is next to power steering res, dont have it on mine.

keep us posted with what you get done on her(y)

The steering cover was my stepmums when she had the car, it's a Taz one...well cool hahaha. Had her running today (the Tipo) now I fixed the fuel pipes. Not a problem...no soot, no smoke. Exhaust emissions are invisible :D. Not actually had her moving yet, but I'm getting close! Hopefully MOT be sorted in time for passing driving test so I have a summer of driving pleasure. Me and my mates be going to Shell Island, all being well I'll be driving her there. Be a great maiden voyage ;)

Speedo went down to 10mph...getting closer! I'm always scared to hit in case the airbag goes off...those things can be more painful than the crash! Will give it a go though, if yours didn't go off why should mine?

My brother's doing a Motorsport course and he thinks the UCO (unidentified cylinrical object hehe) may be the fuel filter...though he's never seen an engine like this before.

I think PAS is standard on the Tipo...this is only an 'S' so this is a Tipo without the trimmings.

i dont have air bags on mine, glad in a way as they are a pain.
i get a bit of smoke out the back of mine but only when im giving it hell for leather.
yeah that thing might be a filter, i dont know much about diesels at all, change glow plugs but thats about it.

Damn...this car business is costing me a fortune and I can't even drive yet hahaha. I see what you mean though, you think I'd get away with trims, or are alloys the only way?
just alloys on there own make a car. just go for some 15" ones, you can get them cheap enough off ebay or someone off here. but thts the way to go before skirts

Maybe I'd be better waiting for a while then, I do want alloys, but I'm scared that when I first start driving I'll batter my lovely new wheels until they're more like hexagons.

I have other little optionals to add anyway. Like the ICE, I only have the original speakers in the dash & a big pair of Pioneer house speakers in the back at the moment. Thinking of rigging it up so that the woofers in pioneers stay as they are in the box, but using the crossovers to have the original back speakers as a mid/tweeter. I might just get some half decent back speakers instead. Either way I need to do something about the front ones, they rattle too much.

Wow it has power steering? That's awesome!

Tipos need power steering really, even the 1.4 petrol is heavy without, the extra weight of the diesel lump is really too much, if the steering is anything like the sedici it's still weighty with plenty of feel!

at least its not a girly punto, do you have some pink fluffy dice for your punto

:ROFLMAO: :worship::slayer:

I had a white Tipo Diesel 1.7 non Turbo.

Paid 75 quid for it and used it for two years every day, clocked up huge mileage in it (290k) travelling around the uk - it NEVER MISSED A BEAT :D

Fantastic car - serviced it twice never changed timing belt though i bought one and still have it new if you want it let me know :)

Towed a few old Fiats with it again from the middle of nowhere to home round trips of over 400 miles a few times and she just kep on going starting first time every time

Gave the car away to a mate who decided to see if it would run on old oil from the chippy almost a full tank unstrained with bits of chips and kebab in it and a fivers worth of diesel i said - that wont run. . . . . :D

Started first time and he ran it on old oil from local chip shops for another 9 months :eek::eek: Funniest thing was you smelt whatever the oil was from from the exhaust - &*^*(*)) hilarious :D:D:D:D

That is the diesel fuel filter.
