Panda (Classic) My 4x4 - The Muddy Pics!

Introduction

Hey everyone as I've only just joined I thought I'd post some more pictures to show you lovely lot what we're all about up here in the bleak North.

Both me and my mate have Pandas, mine's the '87 and his the '89, both Italian Racing Grey.

As I've previously said, although we put the Pandas through their paces we take good care of the old lasses because we want the fun to keep coming.

I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoy making them! :D

Some of these pics are from a while ago, I'll get some new ones up soon :)
Last night I started out to finish cutting all of the plastic arch sections ready for fitting the big wheels.

The front bumper bottom corners have also been cut down along with the arch edgings, and the inner arches have been bolted back with some right-angled clips that I fabricated from some bits of aluminium - don't worry my bumpers are all nackered anyway, I am not cutting up perfecly good parts!

Then I decided to mount my filler neck guard, started drilling and  the drill went straight through the chassis rail...

...so I left it for the evening, as the welder was coming out today anyway.

Today we got onto the metal parts of the arches. We have rolled them back to an inch at the lowest part - nicely away from being savaged by the new tyres! I have also had the fuel tank out in order to weld the repair panel in without torching the lot. Home made filler neck has also gone, and been replaced with an official Panda one!

Many thanks to andyholli for this :)

For the first time in two years I have a proper fuel filler cap! Buff donated the sexy non-locking cap and ring...

Anyway all roads have lead to the final target of getting the big wheels on, and we have got there...

So next job now as you can see by the last picture, is to get the bodywork rot sorted! The doors have about had it now, so it'll be time to get the new pair on, along with tailgate and bonnet - then it'll be a repaint all over. Doubt I'll get it done before the Yorkshire weekend but we'll see :)

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback :)

Looks great Andy.
The front wheel arch cuts look factory, are you still planning mud flaps?

And final question is on gearing - is it still a start in 2nd car or does it want a revised gear set...??

We had some mudflaps on the back of it today to see what they looked like, I was quite liking the look (back to the rally days) but I am still unsure as I would probably end up ripping them off by reversing over them, but definitely something to consider.

I haven't had a lot of chance to try out the gearing as yet. I have only driven it back from the farm, although I did try and get up a hill that I would normally take in third, but second was required! I did have several tool boxes and a set of wheels on board aswell ;) However when I got back into town the steam rally was on it's procession through, I ended up getting into the middle of it where Hadrian cruised happily in first with no revs on - never been able to do that before!

Well done mate looks sexy!

I was convinced by the whatsapp pics the other day, but this settles it, this is the most practical and capable 4x4 panda in Christendom. Well done Andy :)

Thanks Cameron and also Jacob, it's only mildly more capable though, I'm not just being modest: Any classic Panda 4x4 could get through the sections I have taken mine through, you just have to know the route to take and how many beans to apply! I am glad there is a good interest in off-roading the Pandas now, it's good to see :)

Anyway Cameron you will have yours soon and it'll be good to have you along for a weekend getting muddy!

Oh man I am so excited its unreal, never before in my life have I wished for a weekend to be over before :ROFLMAO:

Doing a bit of finishing off tonight, mainly sticking the rear arch trim back on...

As the metal on the arches has now been rolled back, the original plastic plugs and holes which held the return of the plastic trim in place have now gone. So I'm sticking them in place with tiger seal.

The majority of the plastic trims on Hadrian were cracked and shattered when I bought him, so this has nicely got rid of the flappy edges and tidied the arches up aswell.

I am now on with making filler protection version one! Pictures when it's finished
