Hi All

Two week ago i changed both front suspension arms due to one of them failing its MOT on bush deterioration. Bit of a job doing it on your back but managed all looked fine. Then at the weekend i jacked up the nearside to do a oil change. After this i started to hear a noise when pulling away best described as a knock/creak. Then today on pulling away the near side / Passenger side drive shaft sheared the bolts connecting it to the gearbox. Looks like the gearbox has not been damaged / no hole in the casing. Any one any ideas why the driveshaft may have failed as i dont want to repair the shaft and have the same issue.

Many thanks

Andrew.

Sounds like you have pulled the inner cv joint apart when you did the wishbone replacement, you say its sheared the bolts ? do you mean the ring of bolts on the inner cv?

Hi

It has doen the bolts that connect it to the gearbox. it has also done damage to the gold cap. if this helps.

Andrew.

Re: Multipla DriveShafts Update

It has damaged / Ripped out / sheared the Allen bolts that connect it to the Cup that then connects to the gearbox using what looks like 4 x 15 mil bolts . It has also done damage to the gold cap that clips onto the shaft that holds the grease in place. I have managed to drill and tap out the 3 sheered bolts from the cup and clean up the other three threads. I have managed to put the shaft back into place and the gold cup I bent back into shape adding some more CV grease. I have used 6 new bolts and also used lock nut just in case I was just unlucky and the work I did just aggravated an existing condition. BUT I still have the Creak when pulling away in first gear and sometimes a knock. If is almost as though something is flexing.

:bang:

Re: Multipla DriveShafts Update

Mine has done exactly as you describe - except the cup is unuseable now.

Do you know what size the bolts are and if they are available separtely?

And is the 'cup' item 7 on here - and does it being listed as it's own item mean it is availale to buy as a single part? http://tinyurl.com/2u2chs7

Also, have you had any more problems?

Cheers.

i know it's to late , but fiat always use new bolts on driveshafts and seal cover's.. ( oil seal and tow bolts for cover about £6 )

Hi All

Just a quick update the noise that was left after i had fixed the drive shaft was due to one of the wish bones bolts shredding the threads. I replaced the wish bone with a new one and the no noise since. The multipla has now well over the one hundred thousand miles on the clock.

Mine was still under the 3 months guarantee I got with it as it turned out, so they collected it and fixed it.

I'd had a look myself but as some of the bolts had sheared it was beyond my abilities to fix it.

Came back good as new, but did it again two weeks later - turned out they'd used cheap aluminium bolts to put it back together and they'd all given up the fight.

I bought the proper bolts off Fiat and it's been fine for 8,000 miles or so now.
