hi guys,i have exactly the same problem on my 02 115 jtd ,really anoying as ive just given this car to my wife to get the kids to and from school,i also get the error message low oil pressure as the car is stalling,or more like cutting out.ive recently had the car serviced and they put too much oil in which i thought might be the problem but took the car to the garage today to be told that the link up pc gave out a rpm sensor fault message, does anybody know how much this s likely to cost to repair, ive just about had it with fiats all they have ever done is let me down

Andy.........all cars are capable of letting their owners down...did you know that Saab have the worse ratio of breakdowns to numbers owned?

Now thats out of the way the RPM sensor is about £30 but you need it lifted up on a ramp to change it so its not exactly going to break the bank.

As for low oil pressure i'd check the right oil filter has been fitted.

Hi guys - Got wifes car back today ! .......... running like a pussycat ! Turns out it wasn't a sensor fault after all ! ............. Quite simply, the timing was out ! Guess when the cam belt was recently changed it wasn't put on corectly !

I had booked the car in to have the TDC sensor changed which I believed was behind the cam belt anyway, so nothing lost. Garage refitted cam belt as it should be, and voila ! Finally got a smooth running motor.

One point to note, is that I asked them to change the TDC sensor anyway, whilst they were there. Garage informed me that the TDC was not located behind the cambelt as we believed. They told me that this was the phase sensor / crank sensor.

At the end of the day, the car was sorted - That's the main thing !

Thanks to everyone who responded to my problem ! (y)

Good stuff & money saved(y)

This is where the ''incoherence between VSS & phase sensor signals'' error comes in...basically there is a descrepency between these signals like timing is out.

Disagree with the 'They told me that this was the phase sensor / crank sensor' as crank sensor cant be same as its taking its mark from the crank via flywheel or crank pulley at bottom of engine while phase (or cam(camshaft top of engine) sensor...is this what you ment?)is at top.

Anyway its sorted & wife happy.....hope shes cooking you a nice dinner tonight;)

well thats done it,took it to a guy who is a good mechanic but a bit pricey(didnt want to risk it as my wife is using car for school runs),first of all he reckons it took about 4 hours to get to the rc valve, caked up with coke from supermarket fuel apparently, cleaned ,took for a test run and broke down,5 minutes later engine started and back at his garage,he now reckons it is the rpm (crank sensor) which he will get on monday and fit,he also reckons there is a problem with the front anti roll bar or something like that,im hoping that fixing it will stop the terrible whining noise,£511.00 great innit i could buy a car for that,i know im being ripped off and i should of learnt my lesson from before(thats another story),what do you guys think

rc valve:confused: you mean EGR valve? dont take 4 hours(you dont remove the upward 6mm allen bolts under the valve you remove it complete with metal pipe)...book time is 0.8 but a hour is enough.Bit akward to get to thats why I just fit reconditioned ones ,bout £90.

Crank sensor is at rear of engine takes about half hour to fit.

Front suspension knocks are quite common on these.

cheers moderator,im not having any luck at the moment,it seem ive been well and truly ripped off again, its just a shame these problems have to arise to allow the stealers to rip us off in this way,im learning slowly each day, sorry about the stilo post its just ive had enough

Hi Guys
New here on the Fiat Forum, but went looking for answers and found you lot.
My 03 JTD Mult has had the same problem cutting out coming up to round-a-bouts and its cost me big time to get the thing towed home.
Finally caved in and took it to the local Fiat garage who put it on the diagnostic computer, it gave the RPM sensor as the error.
He wanted the equevalent of £260 to sort it out.....NO CHANCE I was paying that.
Fitted it myself this evening along with an oil level sensor, total cost for the two of them was about £60.
Taking it for a test drive now, Fingers crossed that theres nothing else wrong with it.

P.S. I think the RPM at idle are a bit low any ideas.

Thanks

Had the same thing on mine, it turned out to be the crank sensor. It's a common fault and costs about £50 to sort out. (y)
