Hi all
I'm new to this sort of thing, but I thought I'd give it a go because the problem with my 1.6 Multipla is confusing me. I would appreciate any ideas on the cause and possible remedies.
The problem is the temperature the gauge has sat for years at 4 bars but recently it has started going up to 5 or 6 bars or even off the scale depending on the speed I travel at the car does not boil over but smells hot. If I lift off the accelerator the gauge drops back down. When I put my foot on the brake the gauge goes up one bar take it off and it drops back one bar on the temp gauge. The bottom hose stays cold below the t-piece and the bottom of the radiator is cold to. I have changed the thermostat, radiator and water temp sensor but the problem remains. I have bled the water system using the heater and radiator bleed screws, also bleed it from the water temp sensor and numerous pipes. I have filled it up with water using any access I could starting from the bottom hose up. This has turned into a weekend task replacing the coolant then bleeding the coolant system.
Questions are:-
Is it just air in the system if so how do I get it out?
Or has the head gasket gone? There is no oil in the water or water in the oil, no steam from exhaust either.
Please help if you can.
Thanks

Ade
