I'm thinking about the possibility of fitting a multifunction steering wheel to a 500 with an ordinary wheel. My question is: are the wiring looms the same with sections unused or does this have a separate loom. I'm assuming this connects to either the interior CAN or to a MOST system controling the audio. If I'm using an aftermarket android head unit can I effectively create a unique CAN (MOST) network to link the items. At the moment I'm at the limit of my current knowledge therefore any help would be appreciated.

Research today has revealed 2 possibilities the first is to use Bluetooth switches attached to the steering wheel linked to the android audio. A bit of a challenge to make the switches look like a factory fit, although it may be possible to gut them and incorporate the Bluetooth into the factory wheel.
The other option I've found is an Australian company who will sell a custom audio link between the factory wheel and an android head unit. This is an expensive option and only works with some android units. It also relies on the CAN system connecting the wheel to the car wiring.
I was hoping to come up with a cheap DIY fix using readily available used parts.

If you have MES, you can look in the body settings to see if you have otions to turn on/off and/or to change from 6 or 8 button steering wheels. Which I am not sure is relevant after you change the head unit.
The head unit, should be able to comunicate with the steering wheel.

I think its just a case of getting a 500 steering wheel with buttons, and a head unit with a compatible CAN bus adaptor.
I know the Xtrons head unit requires a rewriteble CAN bus adaptor (which may or may not be included nowadays) to stop the mileage flashing, and that may be a factor you want to think about.

Thanks for that information

Another poster on here said that there were four wires to connect, and two were power and ground, so that would have to be investigated. It may be that there is a point somewhere by the steering wiring that you can pick up power, or it may already be there? Here's the link if you haven't already seen it.

I'll look at that.
