Hi Guys,
Multi let us down big time today.
Just pulled up at a roundabout before the M2, lights changed and got half way round and then engine cut out, no power no nothing. managed to get it to the outside of the roundabout.
Would turn over but not start, no engine warning lights etc.
Got breakdown cover etc to get us home.
When turning the key you can turn the engine but no sign of the engine catching. No power steering, abs etc.
Weather had been very wet had been driving for about 40 mins without any trouble, I do recal a noise just before it cut out but couldnt connect it to anything.
Car is a 1.6 on a 53 plate.

When you spin it over on the starter, does it turn over faster than normal?
How many miles on it?
Don't want to worry you unduly but it could be your timing belt gone.

Could be :-

FUEL CUT-OFF SWITCH
It is located under the dashboard on driver’s side and comes into
operation in the event of a crash.
It is a safety switch (A) that comes into operation in the event of a crash,
cutting off the fuel supply thus stopping the engine.
Carefully inspect the car to find fuel leaks, e.g. in the engine
compartment, under the car or near the tank.
If no fuel leaks are found and the car can be started again, press button
(A) to reset the fuel system and the lights.
After a crash, remember to turn the ignition key to STOP to prevent
battery run-down.

Just an update,
After the car was recovered the battery was flat so was unable to turn over.
Couldnt seem to jump start it from my stilo so bought a replacement battery.
When connected up car seem to start up straight away.
Seems to run without any problem now but Im not going to far in it until I get it checked out at the local garage in a few days time.
Couldnt think that a flat battery would of caused the initial cut out but possibly the restart, could it be a alternator fault, just seemed a bit strange for it to cut out when it did, we did have everything turned on at the time so I dont know.
When fitting the battery I couldnt get an exact size one so the new one is a bit bigger, it just about squeezes in the other problem was the securing strap wouldnt fit so after checking there seems to be a small under tray with a drain tube in it so I have removed that and now the battery sits ok.
Next question would removing the tray cause any other knock on problems?
