2006 JTD 1.9 Multijet Multiwagon had from new, now approaching 38K miles on the clock. Average commute +/- 20 miles per day - average MPG since day one is 44.8. On long journeys - last summer 1500 miles around Germany and back to UK - easily goes up to 58 MPG. :D In the UK I only ever fill up with Tesco diesel.
It did dip back in January down to below 40 MPG, only to discover the muppet who serviced my car had not tightened up the connections to the fuel filter and I was dripping diesel everywhere. AA fixed it in a jiff and back to normal.

I looked at all the different ones, including Comma... I used Forte first, made no difference... but I went for the Millers on based on reviews, and the fact that you treat 500 litres for £12, as opposed to a one hit solution like Comma - the Millers has worked after one hit, but I get to maintain the cleaning process over the next ten tankfuls... will be interesting to see if perfomance drops off without it.
Should think that once things are 'clean' they'll stay that way for a while...I plan on using something like Comma every 6 months or something...I don't think theres any need to use it on every tank!

@ManOfStilo - Do you not feel 44mpg is pretty low? Depends if you're stuck in traffic a lot I guess...and do you use the trip/odo or on board reading?

My Stilo JTD estate acheives 52mpg on combined everyday driving (which includes a mix of cross countryside down the lanes and town work)

It was in the low 40's when I bought the car, but since then have changed all the filters including a fully synthetic correct grade oil and put in the Slick 50 oil additive. I also use Millers "diesel clean" which is added to the fuel - available from Halfords.

In addition, I cleaned the MAF (which was sodden with oil) and subsequently the EGR.

To accurately calculate your mpg, fill the car to the brim and set trip to zero. Forget the mpg indicator on the dash.

Then run about until you get bored etc and re-fill car to capacity again, noting at the pump exactly how much fuel you have put in and how far travelled, according to the trip.

You will then have the exact distance covered - and the exact amount of fuel used.

Then, it's a simple calculation:

Multiply litres of fuel used, by 0.22. This converts to gallons.

Eg - 11.23 litres of fuel used = 11.23 x 0.22 = 2.47 gallons.

Assuming 125 miles covered between fill-ups ....

Deadly accurate mpg = 125 (miles covered) divided by gallons used =

125/2.47 = 50.60 mpg.

Voila !

:D

In which case, I'll stick with Millers - I've put in two doses and it's worked for me, that's a fifth of the bottle, so about £2.50, compared with seven quid for the Comma or other single hit ones. I'll use up a bit more of this bottle over the next couple of months, then see how it runs without.

Very good apart from the fact that odometers invariably read 2-5% high! You really need to check the mileage against a satnav unit to be accurate.

2004/04 Stilo 1.6 16v Active Sport - After a full service (inc. plugs, oil, air/oil/cabin filter, cam belt/aux belt change and a Map clean) I am returning a regular 41 > 42 mpg over the week on my regular commute of 25 miles a day (steady 60mph when possible but includes quite a few light stops).
