If you don't mind me asking; how on earth did you manage to travel at least 5000 miles without fitting a new MAF sensor.

Did you have major trouble trying to get hold of a new one or something?

Had a chat with my local Fiat specialist about this and he advised against leaving it disconnected (even if you do use more fuel with it connected).

.....but then again if you did 5-10k miles without any harm :chin:
 
at the time i thought it was a map causing the problem as it was the second maf to be fitted and still run bad. so left it unplugged until that was resolved. then changed it. didnt want to fit a third beforehand and then that one go too.
 
Hi, i have only had my 1.6 Stilo for a couple of months and only get 29/30mpg around town. i used to have a 1.6 Zafira which returned easily 35mpg. I have changed all the normal service parts but still the same. what i have noticed is my tick over is about 700rpm and lumpy, also the car runs better all together if the weather is warm. The car as Michelin tyres all round and pressure checked weekly. I have had the tracking done 3 times and as it seems to alter on its own for what ever reason, could the tyres/tracking be a course of low mpg also tyre noise is horrendous

I also need to remove the battery to charge it, will i loose any codes other than the radio code (i dont have the radio code, cant get it anywere).

Removing the battery you will lose your preferred functions in the computer the time and date which you can reset and reprogramme, you won't lose the radio codes but it will default ie:- will remain on when turning the ignition off you will need to re-progam back in via the RDS function if you haven't done so. apart from that nothing else. The radio is linked to the body computer so as long that hasn't changed then all will be well.

With regard to MPG don't worry about it if car is running ok then all is well the MPG side isn't that accurate anyway, when you drive a car without all the gizmos you don't think about it. the only way of checking the MPG properly is to fill the tank full. take down the mileage drive for about 100 miles then refill the tank full again divide litres by 4.55 this will give you the Gallons used you can then use this to get your true MPG. Also remember weight, temperature, driving conditions, petrol, damp conditions and mood will affect the MPG I have never been able to beat 55.6MPG from JTD Stilo even though I done the same route for about 9 months it varied from 45 to 55 in the end i gave up looking at the consumption.(y)
 
I drove mine with a Faulty map sensor for a few weeks... just seemed to drink more.. barring that it ran fine.., not sure if a faulty map will have the same effect as a map disconnected altogether
 
Im driving a 1.2 and have always got 47.5 mpg around town and up to 52 mpg on motorway journeys (at 70 mph) BUT I have suffered a reduction in consumption to 44 around town and 46.0 on motorways in the last two months or so. The only thing I've done different is to change the front tyres, (which were necessary after 42k on the set!)
Im now looking to get the tracking checked out and reset and afterwards to also replacing the plugs to see if each change makes a difference.
The car is v. high mileage but has no loss of power (apart from the fact its a 1.2 - and of course always has been) and does not use more than 0.5 litres oil between 12k services.
The best performance -both power and consumption - I ever get is with Jet petrol but unfortunately its a bit scarce around here.
 
:eek: i would love to be getting anywer near that mark in my 1.2, that sounds really good, a good mpg was 40 mpg doing 70 - 75 and in towns this usually drops to 30 and below

i havent had the privledge of using jet, dont think ive ever seen one round here, my best experience is with the bp premium unleaded
 
Hi, again, were do i find the map sensor and how do you disconnect it? will i have a fault light on all the time. What is the advantage of disconnecting it. I know there must be something wrong as a 1.6 should give mid 30's around town and at least 40 on a run. I have checked everything and replaced every thing i know and now i'm stumped. I like the car generally squeaks and rattles aside, it's a loverly ride, but compared to the punto for economy theres no comparison.

Deckchair if you look closely at the threads, questions are asked time and time again, people have different questions on the same theme. I am not the type of person who when i have a problem with my car, take it to the first garage and say fix it. Better to go round a few and see if they come up with the same solution. You will notice that there are different responses to my questions all of them useful.
If you care to take the time to count how many people ask the same or similar questions time and time again, you will be surprised, you don't have to respond to them all.

You could of replied simply with a link to the relevant thread you mentioned.

I will ninja this one. I have a similar problem with my 1.6.
I get P0105 and I am fighting with Cat efficency P0420.

I will check the MAP sensor today but my question is how can I know if there are any firmware updates for my ECU ?
My engine is 1.6 16v B6000 vesrion (I think)
 
Didn't want to start a new thread as I'm having the exact same trouble as the OP, though I haven't been through the cam belt change etc.

Basically my 1.6 is drinking fuel at the minute with no changes in the way or where it's driven BUT the computer is still saying 30MPG (lots of town driving >.<) rough calculations show I'd be lucky to be getting 20!

If the MAP is at fault would the computer still show normal MPG? I don't have a way of resetting/reading fault codes or I'd try Decks' trick with disconnecting the MAP for a short drive.

I'm too poor at the minute to get it diagnosed properly and the drinking of fuel is making things worse!

Edit: PS, the EML isn't on
