how much play do u get on the rear trailing arms for the MOT, is it testers discretion or any play and it fails??

Mine was terrible and it passed :confused:I think because it was the first MOT he didn't check it over as well as he should have done:eek:My local Fiat dealer couldn't believe it passed:eek:

I think as long as the car appears to be well maintained they just go over it briefly, my last mot lasted 10 mins:D he could see that every time id worked on the car that the bits that went back on were sprayed silver so it was a good indication that a lot of work had and was being carried out regular.

wasnt sure as my other rear arm looks like it may be needing done but its not at the point where the wheels rubbing and there are def no knocking noises since i replaced the passenger side arm, MOT next wed and im expecting the worst

also do they check the arm the same way they would the front wheel bearing by giving it a shake from side to side

Varies wildly , if its got play i dont think they can fail them as its gotta be dangerous.
An advisory at worst i reckon.

It is excessive play that will fail, this is down to the tester to decide. It is checked by jacking the car up with the suspension hanging, rocked at 12 and 6 and 9 and 3 and then has a bar applied under the wheel to lift the wheel which is how this particular wear is normally found. Dont forget with this problem vehicle handling is effected so its important to get it fixed earlier rather than later.
