HI Everybody

My 2002 Punto has just come back from MOT and there were many problems with lamps:
nearside rear position lamp adversely affected by the operation of another lamp
same with the stop lamp and indicator
nearside front position lamp is not working
nearside and offside headlamp aim too low
offside headlamp insecure

Any idea how much fixing all this would cost? I need to change my windscreen and the tyres on top of that so I'm wondering whether it's worth it. I bought the car in January 2011 and it was worth about £1000 then.

Hi , and welcome to FF,
your car is probably a MK2 punto, and judging by the purchase price - then YES it is worth fixing..!!,
tyres and Screen apart, the lights are pretty cheap,
sounds like you've got a bad earth somewhere upsetting MOST of your faults,
maytbe an indicator bulb,
the headlight alignment is VERY straightforward..assuming the Bulb is actually held in properly,
Ask in the Punto 2/B Section listing your faults , somebody on there will probably tell you the common issue with your lights/ earthing issue,

Windowscreen is best been done via insurance, as its guarentee'd and its done properly

Tyres - Look online, and see how much garages charge to fit them
It may work out £5 cheaper per tyre all together if you wish to put the effort in

Anyway lights
Rear passenger light cluster sounds like you have disco lights
The fix is a simple one :)
Pop the rear cluster off, 2 17mm nuts inside the car (look in your manual)
Locate the black wire in the multi-plug
this is the earth wire, that pin IN the light cluster will need cleaning, often it goes mankey with rust/oxides/moisture etc and causes back flow of electrons causing disco lights

So a micro fine file will do here
Some wet and dry paper on a lollypop stick
What ever you use, remove the surface affecting the flow to earth

Also, since the light cluster is out, remove and clean all the terminals on all the bulbs and there bulb holders
If the pins going funny, the bulbs might not be far out either

Seen mine vibrate so much in my lights that its caused the bulbs to rub the points flat = poor connection = Disco lights

So ensure your bulbs in good condition

Driver front light - position lamp not working
Which is this one? sidelights i assume, just switch the sidelights on and have a look and see which bulb isn't working
i bet the bulb has died, £2.50 from halfords to fix, DIY = Money to you!

The beams been set to low - there too lazy to adjust it for you basically
Ensure the dash level switch is set to 0, and then adjust the headlight beams upwards

Offside headlamp insecure, meaning the mounts are broken
Several options
A - Bodge job, plastic weld - Metal bracket + metal glue
B - new headlight = Costly.....
C - 2nd light cluster - Diy fix = More money to you!

Hope this helps for you
