Well 12 months after it's last major work I've got round to some long overdue tasks
Fitting towbar for my cycle rack...the change to LHD fog and reverse lights, parking sensors and the completely useless handbrake..
Upon the removal of the bumber i found this..
It was strapped to the rear crash bar but not used.... can anyone advise please what this does? Is it a tow bar connector?
I haven't got round to the wiring yet...

That connector may well be for the factory-fit parking sensors. Pretty sure there’s no pre-wiring for a tow bar.
I agree. Its a shame it was no use for the accessori reverse sensor though. Ibought a bespoke towing wiring kit. A great thing the only wires that needed fiffling were the RFL and reverse light.

Cutting the bumper is best done with a shrp knife / stanley knife and junior hacksaw for the reinforcement. Cut the minimum out you cn get away with. Thye said cut out quite a lot from mine and it would ahve been better to minimise the width of the piece removed. If you cut the edge, where is 'double skinned' I would put a pop rivet though htis and the paimnted bit to secure the two layers together at the cuts. I didn't and need to go back and do it now. Easier while the bumper is off.

Its parking sensors fitting tomorrow
Drilling the bumper is not something I'm looking forward to
Still....found the handbrake issue
Rear discs were fine on both inner and outer so no issues with sticking calipers
Removed both front seats to gain access to a really slack cable on the lever
Have tightened it up ensuring it hasn't bound the rear brakes when the lever isn't applied

Work completed
Handbrake is much better but still won't hold on the mountain incline that i live on
Towbar is excellent and when detached looks very tidy - you can barely notice anything has been installed
Decided against rear parking sensors as the Cross bumper has multiple skins and there was nowhere that i felt happy drilling holes through

Inside the bumper the holes are all marked so you cant go wrong. I did a guide which might persuade you to go ahead. Ive always frowned on parking aids but I like these things, except I want to know when Im 15mm away and the continuous bleep is about 300, but still helpful to an arthritic old fool!

Areas to be drilled all single skinned and much easier than the towbar cut.
