obviously declaring mods bumps your insurence up, and ive been offerd some alloys. will they bang my insurence up alot or will they go un-noticed if i dont declare them?

more than lkely it wont have any affect. im with admiral and it made no difference to my premium

Axa declined my policy for adding standard Mazda 16in Alloys to my 323 ZXi, as the guy I bought it off had OZ alloys that I didn't like.

This is the best one....E Sure wouldn't entertain grooved discs to my HGT! Outstanding, but if in doubt.....declare.

cheers guys. im with norwich union, suppose ill have to ring them 2moz and try to de-sypher(sp) the south african at the other end!

i was with norwich union and i declared alloys/bodykit/exhaust when i was 18. insurance was £1600 (on a 1.4 bravo). This year i switched to adrian flux, and its £800 with even more mods declared.

sic.

called norwich union up £109 extra/ year for alloys with locking nuts.
that would bring my premeium up to £2300 :( and it wont be going down next year due to a crash i had just after i passed. and i cant seem to find any cheaper quotes. insurence is raping me!

how old are you? if your 19 try adrian flux - lots of forms to fill out and stuff for modded cars but i got a 50%!! decrease. also, if your in your first year of driving, do pass plus - i got almost £600 knocked off my norwich union insurance in my first year of driving.

£2300!!! Ouch!

All depends on your insurance company. Some will charge nothing, some will do an admin charge and some will be really silly. All depends on the company really.

I'm paying £350 fully comp on a HGT with ALL mods declared.

You MUST declare your mods. In the event of an accident most companies will try everything to get out of payment. If they find mods you haven't declared your insurance will be void and a rather large bill for yourself.

Adrian Flux have baan good to me this year. They were rubbish when I had my 80SX but by far the best on my HGT.

Dont forget to join BOO for extra discounts on your insurance :)

Just dont declare them, say they were on the car hen you bought it and you were unaware they wernt standard!
I hate insurance

Stu

Unfortunately Stu that doesnt always work. The rear bumber and exhaust were on the car when I bought it but its quite obvious they aint standard.

Claiming ignorance aint really the best excuse and is not a sure way of getting around it. Insurance is a pain in the ass but its gotta be done

stu,

its not worth trying to do that, say, in worst case scenario you end up having a bad smash the car's a write off or whatever, they are going to inspect that car no matter what you say, if those alloys are non-standard you have to declare them, its not a matter of if you fitted them or not, if there not standard, they need to be declared mate, or you could find your insurance is invalid and that could lead to all kinds of trouble....

i never declare 'mods' and have never had any trouble. alloys suspension brakes etc

...you wont until you have a smash or someone smashes into you

"...you wont until you have a smash or someone smashes into you"

^^ exactly my point, its like driving without insurance, some people take the risk, most abide by the law, by not declaring mods you're breaking the law m8.

the way i see it - if your not going to declare your mods, but your still going to pay insurance - your only paying to show the police you have insurance. its not worth paying £2000 for void insurance - cause in the event that you'll need to use it, you will

A, have wasted however much you have paid for your void insurance

B, have to pay for the damages done in your accident. and if you maim somebody and they are in care for the rest of their life - you will NEVER have any money for yourself ever again.

so if your gonna pay for insurance, it might aswell be valid.

John.

been smashed into an everythin went through a ok.

its an idependant assesor that comes to view your car so why would they care.

like a couple of people including myself have already said, its your decision at the end of the day, but if you're not declaring mods then your insurance is invalid, i doubt very much the assesor is independant as if there is serious damage, an assesor from both your own and the other party's insurance are sent out, of course they'd care if there are after market modifications. i cant believe the ignorance of some people. a very good point was made that if you are paying for invalid insurance, your just wasting your money, you may as well not bother with your insurance at all if you have that attitude.

Just two incidents I would like to mention.....the guy next door to me was in a crash ( his fault) and had fully comp insurance, however when his car was examined it was discovered he had two bald tyres at the front and the insurance wouldnt pay out, said he was driving illegally.......guy across the raod from be had his car bumped into when he was parked up, the guy who hit him (as witnessed by my wife) then drove off. the driver who drove off, actually lives on the same big estate, so the wife told the innocent party. However, the police didnt turn out, the careless driver quickly got his car repaired and sold it on, all within a month, and the poor guy woh got bumped ended up paying out!!

Police finally decided to sort it all out, phoned the wife today for her statement and the driver now says he cant remember who he sold it to!!
