Modifying the air filter box

I've read on a few sites about modifying the air filter housing to improve performance. What you have to do is drill a few holes in the housing, this allows more air to be sucked into the engine. Apparently doing this and buying a performance filter element can give more power output than some induction kits.

Anybody any ideas on this?

Air Filter Solution

If you use induction kit, you need a heat shield to protect hot air being sucked by the exposed air filter. Why drill original air box, just remove the host before you air box, to allow more air. But this will also reduce you power as, hot air can go in.

hmm

Yeah I think i'll stick with the induction kit, probably a safer option. Do you have one? Or do you know which one might be best?
Cheers,

Neil.

theory of the induction......

just a thought he grill aperture is quite small on all the models and have the air drawn in at quite a ratewhen travelling at speed now this air is cold as it is drawn in a t the very fron t of the vehicke and is forced thru, so bydrilling the airbox and allowing very little more ai in that is also warmer doesnt seem to make much sense, a friend of mine had done this to his golf gti, the noise doubled and the performance didnt improve it only sounded as if you were travelling quicker, note so will the police !!!

Induction kits

You can obtain the K&N induction kit from most UK parts dealers eg. Demon Tweaks etc. or visit:

Cheers.

P/S Be prepared for some loud noise from you engine compartment though. You can also get the replacement elements (reusable types) alternatively.

i've drilled holes & it sounds throatier and goes quicker
