Hi, Just a wee technical question here to see if anyone has had the same problem and knows a possible solution.

My 2004 Punto's heater has recently decided to stop working, up until now there has been no problems with it what so ever, but all of a sudden, it's now completely dead.

I know the heater itself will heat up, as I can feel warm air wafting through the open vents when the heat is turned up. But there is not power in the fans at all, its stuck on 0.

I'm hoping that this is a problem someone may recognize, as my friends 53 plate Punto Mk2b has a similar problem, except its stuck on 2 instead of 0. Hopefully indicating its a common fault?

I have tested the switch and wiring etc, and all seems fine. :p But I have not been able to find the motor for the heater fans to check it out yet...

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks
Gregor.

Does your blower work on the highest speed ie number 4? If it does then its most likely the resistor pack thats gone. Its used to give the different blower speeds and I believe its where Tony suggested to check.

Good luck mate (y)

Thanks for the replies guys, Ill have a look at this under the glove compartment tomorrow and see If I can find anything to suggest the source of the problem.

The fan has no power what so ever mate, I can turn the middle switch between 0, through 1, 2, 3 and to 4 all day, but to no avail. Its dead. :(

I seem to remember reading on here about when a poor earth connection for the heater fan being responsible for weird gongs on with the lights etc but maybe yours has gone one stage further and has lost all continuity.

I believe the problem has been for many a main connector under the glove box area (Tony mentioned this earlier I believe) and due to high currents being passed at least one of these connectors gets hot/melts/gives up. I also believe the cure is to wire up a separate external connector (please feel free to correct).

Good luck with it though mate (y)

ok just to ,let you know ive sussed mine, it was the fuse for the manual climate control. 7.5amp one in the main fuse box inside the car, luckily for me i had a 54 plate punto to swop everything over and trial and error job. after swopping everything from resistor pack to heater switch and even heater fan, i decided to take another look at the fuse box. he presto. couldnt believe it.

Thanks again for all the helpful replies.

I found the problem :) A very simple one it was as well! It would seem that a passenger had accidentally knocked out the cable powering the fan motor underneath the glove box...

I never even thought to check something so obvious haha, plugged it back in securely and the heater is restored to working glory. (y) Result!

I kind of have a similar problem on my 55sx (m reg) except it only blows cold air, I have replaced the thermistat but the engine over heats too... I found that if i do a lil extra speeds it brings the temp down... could this be a blockage or water pump failure?.... if it was the head gasket then surly I'd notice blowing from the block? Any suggestions? please help.

Also apologies if this is in the wrong place, if so can a mod
move to right place.

Many thanks.
Karl.

Low coolant will do this. Drain and flush the sludge and fill with proper coolant.
See the FF Guides.
If its been doing it for more than a few seconds the cylinder head gasket will have been stressed and may be blown or going to before long.
