Hi all, my mk2 punto has all of a sudden started hesitating under acceleration at low revs, as soon an it goes above about 3500 revs it stops any ideas on what this could be? Is it a common fault?
Thanks :)

I asked a mate today and he seems to think its an intermittent miss fire, any common fixes for this ?
Thanks :)

Hi mate,

there are lots of common causes for misfire... start with the simple ones..

When were the spark plugs last changed?
Check the HT leads. How old are they? Any arcing in the dark?
Coil pack failing.
Sticky injector

How bad is the misfire? How often?
Have you swapped the lambda as per fingers suggestion?

Alan

No mines in every gear but when you get over about 3500rpm it goes basically when you put your foot down at low revs
Il check the leads tomorow thanks for the replies :)

It's hard to explain, you know the term kangaroo juice where your jolting on the clutch it's kind of like that but for longer than you would usually be on the clutch for if that makes any sense?

Yeah mine did that then put your foot back down and would lose all power for about 2 seconds?
If so try bottom lambda sensor with your pre cat and if it solves problem get new sensor :)

When the engine is labouring - working hard thats when misfires are worst

I've literally done a mk2 punto yesturday for that exact fault

Hesitation and juddering, since it was been run cheap - he wanted a cheap fix

since he had no history of Spark plugs or HT's been done, i went down that route
£21 for 4 plugs and leads

I swapped them over

turns out the was an 03 with 77k on clock?

It was what looked like the original spark plugs and HT leads since Day one, or a fiat service (first 3 years?)

so they were 7 to 10 years old and well and truly past it

Badly scorched, leads were white tipped, running lean etc, it was ready for new plugs and leads

Ziggy

Yeah had original lancia plugs in :) now has Bosch racing plugs :) worth it if you ask me :)

Plugs are new did that last week but from what I can see the leads are all different so they may warrant a change il get some from work tomorrow

Just got some ht leads from the breakers and now it's fixed! Thanks for all the help :)
