Technical MK2 Cam Belt

Just wondering how expensive is it to get a cam belt for a MK2? and how easy is it to fit??


Iv just had a look at mine n its looking abit worn so figure i best get it done!

i take it is an 8v?

how many miles has it done?

cambelt kit is under £30.

fitting is probz £60.

its done 92,000 miles, I'm not sure if it had a replacement at 60,000. A friend who used to be a mechanic had a quick look and said its starting to fray abit and should get it replaced

if the water pump hasnt been done yet do that too deffinatly.

water pump
tensioner
belt.

parts will be under £50.

fitting 60 i would say.

diy is easy tho.

ok so took the car to get a quote, £238 to get those 3 parts renewed! I'm a stooodent n can't afford that any suggestions anyone??? purrrlease help

thats way over the top.

ie- double what it should be.

water pump- £20
cambelt kit- £25
labour- £70 (£80 max)

132.75 incl vat.

a mobile person/mechanic friend would charge about £100 quid cash.

i took it to a more local garage, n he said the labour would be about 100, I've just gotta wait on how much the parts will be whcih with what you say will be about 150, im alot happier with that price than the 238! lol

My W reg JTD Punto cost £150 at a Fiat specialist a few years ago now, tho i didnt have the water pump done as i didnt know it needed it.

So id think £150 is about right for everything on your 1.2 (taking into account labour rates increasing since mine was done), as the 1.2s are arguably easier to work on than a JTD as there is much more space around the engine and would probably have been about £100 ish at the time i got mine done.
