Does anyone know about the window winders in a mk1. my drivers window will wind down no problem, it will wind back up no problem untill it is about 4 inches from the top then it just gets verry stiff and the winder keeps slipping round and round. i have tryed wd40 down the window runners and on the winding mechanism and spray grease but nothing helps, what can i do i want to sell the car

My old Uno did that. The plastic gear in the winder mechanism wears out then slips with tension. Only thing you can do is to replace it. Not that difficult to do, you just have to find another winder/ window regulator (y) Oh, and use some silicon grease inside the window rubbers to help the window slide better.

Probably the mechanism has slipped or wasn't adjusted correctly (the bolts have slotted holes), or maybe the front/back plastic track the glass slides in has broken. And now as a result, the plastic gear has worn out as Chas says, so you'll have to replace the mechanism (not difficult to do, use pliers to squeeze the press-fixing to release from the glass).

Careful Chas - you suggested *silicones* - chemicals... LOL ;)

Window winder mechanisms normally last well on an Uno, so there must be some lying around at wreckers?
