Hi, my fiat punto is hunting like mad, when I get to traffic lights or a junction etc the car stalls. Would this have something to do with the stepper motor? The idle setting is obviously faulty as the speedometer needle keeps jerking up and down.

Any thoughts would be great.

stalling like that i'd be looking at MAP sensor, but first try removing the idle stepper, cleaning it and it's tubes through the TB with carb cleaner. Turn the ignition on with the stepper disconnected. Leave for 30seconds. Turn off, reconnect stepper. Turn on for 30 seconds. Start car.

It's the rev counter that keeps jerking - Then stalls when I stop.

I shall try the cleaning idea though, thanks.

rev counter jerking.. hmm..

it well be a clutch issue instead i guess, and then that is what is stalling the engine. i dont know the selecta clutch at all tho

If anything like Panda Selecta it's a electronic powdered clutch. This is operated by micro switches (two) on the acceleator pedal.

I'd check those as it sounds like the cluth isn't disenguaging, possibly as a result of a faulty mirco switch/connector.

How long have you had the car? Before this problem did your Punto 'creep' like conventional auto's or not

Not creeping, no. It doesn't always stall - but when it does, it's a nightmare.
