Hi everybody, im new to the forum. I hoping somebody here can help me with my problem.

My 2004 1.9d van missfires quite badly on starting up but gradually over 2 or 3 minutes starts to idle properly, it seems fine under acceleration but when you are holding a constant speed it seems to do it again causing a slight jerking every couple of seconds, this seems worse or maybe is just more noticeable at lower speeds like 30 mph.

The van has been to 2 garages now and both came up with no faults on the diagnostics, and both are unsure on how to try and solve this problem. Also the van only seems to be getting about 30 mpg.

Any help anybody can give me is greatly appreciated because at the moment i really cant afford to let a garage start replacing things until they eventually find the problem

Difficult one, doing a google search on diesel misfire brings up loads of cases of replacing glow plugs/injectors. Also adding diesel cleaners to fuel in hope it cleans up system. One case of a bent controd yielding insufficient compression! hope its not that. Is the misfire still present after 2/3 mins?
T probably has the best suggestions for this.

Unfortunaly don't rule out the fuel pump (it's a 1.9 epic system after all) however you really need to get someone who can read and understand parameters to diagnose correctly what is (or not) happening.

Likely suspects are shut off valve, injector, wiring, ECU, air/water temp sensors etc however as stated you really need to look at the parameters.

The idle seems to settle itself out after about 2 mins John.

Its going into the fiat garage next week, i spoke to them on the phone and the guy said he can guarantee me he'll diagnose the problem on the diagnostic machine for 60 euro. So thats not too bad , we'll see what he comes up with!

Thanks for the suggestion guys, i was thinking it could be a sensor or something myself but we'll find out soon

hi there , did you ever get to the bottom of this problem ?, as my van doing the exact same ...thanks
