Hi everyone,

I have a 96P Fiat Bravo (73,000) miles. All was running perfectly until I changed my spark plugs and ignition leads two weeks ago. Since then it has been misfiring occationally (and is getting worse).

I've looked at the cables and can't work out what is wrong. Is there anything else I should try?

When the car is idling (sp?) the revs are normal, the car sounds normal and there doesn't seem to be a problem. When I drive away, especially at low revs and low speed, it splutters and "bunny hops". When at high speed / revs it seems to be normal...I think.

Anything you suggest I look at? Please help asap as I am suppose to take the car to Paris tomorrow evening!

Thanks,

-Ryan

They are the right leads and plugs? You did get them the right way around? (probably wouldn't idle though) All the connections are seated properly?

What engine size?

Misfiring

Its a 1.4 Bravo SX.

I took Bosch ones off, but Halfords didn't have any in stock so I bought the orange ones they had there. Apparently they are high performance ones and are the correct type, but I'm not sure. I would much rather the originial Bosch ones.

Someone suggested I had put them in the wrong socket on the distributer cap. Could this be the case? Also, what order do they go in on the distributer cap?

Thanks for the quick response,

-Ryan

Re: Misfiring

It wouldn't idle if they were wrong.

The order is 1-4-3-2. Whats probably the case is the connections are not quite snug, I used those leads once and hated them as the connectors are dire.

Take the distributor end of each lead in turn, slide the rubber boot back so you can see the metal contact, plug the metal contact into the dizzy so its a good fit and then slide the boot back. Do the same for both ends of the coil lead.

Misfiring

Thanks for the quick response Tom. I shall try that and let you know if it works. Currently at work so it will have to wait until this evening.

Re: Misfiring

when i changed my plugs i had the same problem, one of the plugs was covered in crap after a few days running, cleaned it off with WD40 and works fine, might be worth a look

Plugs

helped a mate service his mondeo a few weeks ago, put all the plugs in etc worked fine for a bit then developed misfire.

The plugs we got from halfords were the wrong ones! Even though they were the ones listed and we both checked! They were too short so the spark was too far away from the piston to be effective.

Re: Re: Plugs

works wonders Ian, also heard it can used as a replacement for KY jelly but some people who use it suffer from a burning sensation...............LOL
