Hi all,

A couple of questions for you -

1) Does anyones Marea 20v suffer from an intermittent misfire when driving in the rain ?. Coming back from seeing the gf in Liverpool it was proper peeing down, loads of spray etc on the motorway. On a couple of occasions the engine spluttered, then carried on as if nothing had happened. There where no warning lights on the dash. Only seems to occur when it's raining...any thoughts ??.

2) I need two front tyres pretty soon :(, replaced the rears with P Zero Nero's yesterday. Was going to put the same on the front but they seem to have mixed reviews regarding their wet weather performance. Have had Yoko's on the front before and didn't rate them in the wet (n), so can anyone recommend any ??.

Thanks in advance :D

Mick.

It sounds like you got some water down the plug tubes and its earthing the spark plug, my old 147 20v marea used to have the same proplem.

Take the plug cover of, remove the coil packs(be carefull with these their expensive), put a cloth down the tubes to soak up the water(make sure its a long cloth so you can pull it back out), then remove and clean your plugs and again put the cloth down to soak up any remaining water. Hey presto your done.

BE VERY CAREFULL when putting the plugs back in, you can easily cross thread the threads in the cylinder head and then your heads in for an expensive repair.

When I put plugs in I always try a few turns in reverse and you can quite often feel the plug just drop into the threads, then tighten, always do it by hand until your happy its in ok. I never tighten em up with a ratchet for fear of cross threading. If you feel any resistance play save and remove and check for cross threading.

I run on Yoko Parada Spec II's all round their great

Thanks fella's, will check out the plug tubes theory as soon as it stops p*ssing down .

Swapped the Nero's from back to front and have to say they don't seem too bad in the wet (y). Some understeer ( as expected in the wet ) when pushed a little, but very controllable and predictable. Not much wheel spin from a standing start either :D.

Didn't push it though cos I had my dad in with me !!.

Cheers

Mick.

Bridgestone ER300's came out really well for wet and dry grip and braking when Which magazine tested tyres recently. I am planning to fit a set to my Marea Weekend as soon as I have got rid of a bit more tread from the nearly new 'ditch finder' budget tyres which were on it when I bought it.:)

Vredestein Hi-track
Very good in the wet, last well, Just changed the front tyres after they had been on the car for two years, 1 year on the front and 1 year on the back, milage
UK to Greece and back twice , plus a year commuting at 250 miles each week.

Two should cost under £100 plus fitting

best of luck with the Pirellis! i only saw sub 4k miles on them when i had the 20v engine and my god are they poor in the wet.

Toyo T1-R have my vote every time at the moment and i recomment them to everyone, i've not heard a bad review of them.

they are quite soft compound so dont last forever but they have solid walls so grip like **** to a blanket in the dry and they will let you run away from most cars in the wet on corners

there been a recent price hike and currently the best deal i have been able to get is £180 for 2 fitted.
