yes folks as the heading says my milege has been reset to zero lol my head gasket went just before i went on holiday so car sat for 2 wks without being started so batt was flat when i jump started it when i got bk the milege is back at zero anyone know how to get this sorted ? or wot the problem could be ?

The battery being flat will do nothing to change the milage, the milage is stored in a eprom in the dashboard meaing it does not need power to remember the value.

You will have to go to fiat and for them to change the milage to the correct value or the previous mot value.

There is a way to change the value by reprogramming the eprom but this isn't for people without knowledge of this sort of thing, and also probably MODS here wont like talk on the subject.

Well, there's not much to hide about that...

You can reset the mileage by reprogramming, and your ECU will sync at 0 kilometers / miles. However, the CKS counter within the ECU will record that you DID reset it... There's no real way to hide that one AFAIK...

However, even IF you did it, your car would never pass MOT in those conditions (n)

You should be worried though: Both the dash and the ECU store the mileage on a local non volatile ROM memory, so if yours has been reset, there's a possibility your dash may be malfunctioning...

Either ways, mileage issues are something that can only be fixed at FIAT, and they'll only fix it on a roof-based manner (it will acquire the highest value between the ECU and the dash, and store/sync it in both places).

have you checked the obvious?

does it say "Trip" under the milage?

if it does, press the "Trip" button to the right and you will get your milage back

Oh lord... :bang:

Well, I guess it shouldn't be that anyway... Seeing as if you disconnect the dash, it will show up on the mileage screen by default when turned back on.

False you can reprogram the st 95040 eprom in the dash.

But not on FIAT paul... And you'll still end up with the CKS counter modified if you try to take miles off the ECU itself, so it can be traced either way. This is what I gather from reading the ECU specification (it was here before, in another topic).

So what if the ecu stores that somethings been changed. Its not illegal to change your milage is it, only if its done in a fraudlent way. also the ecu may not even be the same ecu that came with the car

Tampering with the mileage is illegal here, and classifies as crime of fraud, but I dunno in the UK.

It may happen as you said, you may put a new ECU on your car... But then, you'd still have the mileage in the dash, so the ECU would record that mileage automatically... So, we come to a point where you have to buy a brand new dash, and a brand new ECU to make it all look clean... And that comes probably more expensive than the car is worth :D

Surely its only illegal/fraud if you try to claim the car mileage is not what it should be. All you have to do is make sure the car's mileage when the new reading was set is noted with the car's papers. This will be supported by the MOT mileage which is recorded on the DVLA computers.

Not over here you can't! Should something happen to your car, mileage on it must be set to the same value it had previously, or it will fail IPO (which is the same as the english MOT). Even if you added a note about it, you wouldn't be legal, you would have to make a new registration of the car, pay for the IUC (single automotive tax), pay for the anual IUC tax, pay for a new ownership certificate, pay for a new license plate...

Cars here will fail the IPO whenever the odometer counts less than or equal to the value that was registered in a prior IPO, to prevent scams.

Ouch! and we complain here in UK.

My mate's Uno in Italy was scrapped recently because it's now illegal to use it. The car was solid and safe with emissions lower than most Euro III cars. But it was a pre Euro 1 so now illegal rgardless of how clean its actually is. The excuse it so keep dirty cars off the roads but it actually forces up the sales of new cars and all the additional CO2 released to make them. How green is that. :(

That can't be possible! How do you keep a classic car over there, then... :(

Our roads are still full of Unos, and older cars alike... I'd feel pretty saddened if my Punto was forbidden...

The difference between Napoleonic law and common law.

Common law says if its not got a law against it then its legal.
Napoleonic law says there has to be a law allowing you to do it or its illegal.

Most of the time there's not much difference (the law is an ass) but these are situations where the law gets really silly.

i currently have the wrong milage on my car too since i upgraded by dash instruments from the single speedo and fuel guage to the one with the rev counter etc. my dash is flashing when i drive and shows the incorect milage, passed its mot fine lol

Is the milage lower? If so did you tell them? Not good if you have lower milage and didn't say as the mots are recorded so they'll have your previous milage on record.
