I bought a new Panda Mylife in July 2011. So far I've done 4,400 miles - mainly motorway driving - and it's only averaging 48mpg. This weekend, I put 13 litres in and I only got 100 miles from it and over half of them were motorway driving. It's getting nowhere near the advertised mileage. I've queried it a couple of times with the dealership and just keep getting told the engine will still be 'tight'. Previously I had a 5 year old Panda Dynamic and it was doing better mileage and it had 20 grams more emissions. Any ideas?

Thanks.

It will get better have herd this problem with new fiat scudo/black cabs. But you wont get the same result as fiat .

Hi, thanks for the reply. I wish I'd known before I bought it - I would have gone for something else.

hi.... you must be driving like a saint to get 48mpg... i only average 33 if im being really careful :s weiirrdddd..... cant help but be constantly looking at the instant consumption when ever i go anywhere. its the only thing that slows me down...

just realised you said Panda not Punto... but still my point stands the same. im sure advertised mpg for the punto 1.9 sporting is around 60mpg. yet i only just get over half. have to really feather the throttle to keep it around 40 or more

Hi, thanks for the reply. I wish I'd known before I bought it - I would have gone for something else.

Our '04 1.1 panda was never GREAT on fuel,
apparently the 1.2 works out better,

yes the motor could still be tight,
the problem with the top quality oil is they slow down the bedding-in process, ( i've read 5 to 10 K for the FIRE engines).

with performance engines you run them in briefly on mineral oils, then switch to synthetics to keep things at that level of wear..,
I hope that helps,
Charlie

Thanks for the posts. I'll keep an eye on it but I've a feeling I'll be nagging the dealership for answers.
