Technical Mileage has been rest !!!!

Hi Everyone ,

I 've a Punto SX 2002, when starting it today it stalled for 2 seconds and started normally, but the mileage counter was rest and gave me a wrong mileage reading ( - 10,000 Km than the actual )
It’s not the first time that it happens , it happened before when the battery was dead , but I thought that removing the battery for a while caused it.

Does anyone know what’s the problem , and any idea to fix it back??

Sounds like the speedo has been replaced previously and the mileage adjusted to match, take it to fiat.

Disconnect the battery over night let the ecu reset and hook it back up in the morning let the car run for 5mins then take it for a spin if the mileage dosnt come back do as said above take it to a fiat dealer...

you see loads of vehicles for sale on forecourts with stickers saying the odo is wrong, and I mean like 15-20% of vehicles on the local fiat tarmac

Are these digi odos? I've heard of a Tipo DGT have its dash reset to 0 driving past the Fylingdales RAF base..

I tried to reset the ECU but nothing happened.
by the way i forgot to say that i had to change the ECU from 5 months ago ( i did not know what caused the failure ) and i'm afraid that could be the begining to change it again.

Does the ecu not hold the milage or is it like cluster or something anyone know..?

My guess its in the body computer inside car, its a favourite place to loose memory, not just with Fiat, 2002 Peugeot of mine did it and remote stopped working.
