General Mid Wales 4x4 Meet - Carmarthenshire - Introduction

I spoke to team at the accommodation today to make sure we are all upto speed. Not long to go now! Please don't forget to book your time off work if you haven't already done so!

For those who can't make this meet or who have missed out, please don't worry as I am planning a Yorkshire weekender for July time - we'll get the show back on the road this year!

OK guys it's not long now until the meet. A couple of people have asked me about a plan for our trip and Gavin Palio has an alternative for one of the days as well so I would like everyone who is coming to help decide on this please!

As the venue offers all of the routes I have mostly left it upto them for specifics. As far as the daily plan goes these were my thoughts..

Monday 8th
Arrival day for all; no specific arrival time so no rush for anyone. I have left this day free of any plans just incase anybody has any problems on the way up which we may need to assist with. We are booked in for the evening meal so aim to be there before then. I am aiming to get there probably early afternoon so if others are wanting to, we could go for a small ride out to look for some scenery. Evening meal, drinkies, bed.

Tuesday 9th (possibility of change)
Off road day 1. We'll take to the trails for a full day of action. I am hiring a GPS from the owners of the venue which has routes pre-programmed in of varying difficulties, this is great because we don't need to worry too much about rushing into the planning when we arrive! Packed lunch will be required and I'd like to get saddled up for a start around 9:30 so we can make the most of the day. Again we are booked in for the evening meal so back to base after a good day out.

Wednesday 10th
Off road day 2. Planned for the same as Tuesday, use the GPS and go out on some different trails in search of mud and scenery. Packed lunch again or we could plan to find a pub, I'm open to suggestions. Our host Andrew said he would like to join us in his Landrover for this day as well as he'd like to see what the Pandas are capable of, so it will be good if he could take us down a few more testing tracks. Evening meal as before and a good chat among friends.

Thursday 11th
On-site off-road course. I've booked us to use the course for the Thursday morning so no mad rush to get up it'll be there to use until lunch time. We can then wash down using the on site facilities. After this we could all go for lunch together somewhere before heading our separate ways if you'd like.

So Gav has offered an alternative for the Tuesday so I'd like us all to have a think about this as I don't want to have us miss an opportunity with it being so close. Palio can you explain your plan please?

Cheers all.

Thanks Andy.

A suggestion popped up at the NEC, and I asked Andy if there was a plan for the Tuesday. It sounds like there is, so I'll just throw this out in case anyone is interested.

Practical Classsics are doing a tour of transport cafes and will be in Wales on Tuesday. The chap organising their after food run through Wales is a nutter & Panda fan - he is happy to route them to Deer something (I'd have to look at a map!) park to meet us. It's about an hour away from our base, and we could potentially do a morning run (ideally using nearby green lanes if there are any) before meeting up with the PC crew and other classic cars. There's apparently a good place for a meal nearby too.

It's really just a rare opportunity to get the Pandas seen by Danny/James & Co, and this might be the best chance of getting the Off-roading Pandas into PC (they are usually so busy, it's difficult to find a gap in their schedule to come to see us).

That's it really. I'm not suggesting it's better than the other plan - just an alternative. I promised Ian I'd ask Andy & let him know. If it's a no, I'll just explain there were other plans. (y)

Looking forward to this. Must pull my finger out and fit my shiney new prop and wheel bearing to my mk3 :D

Andy, have we got an idea on July weekend date yet? Just the summer diary is already getting fairly full, so would like to pin it down if possible :)

What's in July? There's lots of shows then, but I'll try to rearrange if something Panda is happening. (y)

I believe Andy is looking to organise one of his offroading weekends (might have misread it last night though) - although I've just realised I've only 1 free weekend in July, what with the 2 weddings I'm attending etc

I'm finding I can't form an opinion about Tuesday until we have more details.

If it works out that we can green lane to the transport cafe, meet up with PC for lunch then green lane back I can't see that it will detract too much from our main purpose.

OK well I am happy to go ahead with Gav's plan I just need to know the ins and outs of it regarding location for meeting and times if possible please Palio. I'll formulate a rough route then and try and find us some lanes to do along the way. If we're getting pictures taken we'll have to get muddy before hand!

I think this could be a very good opportunity to get some exposure of Pandas in a mainstream mag which is no bad thing. As long as we can get a plan sorted so we can incorporate some lanes or an interesting route to and from the meet then it shouldn't be too different to what Andy has proposed for Wednesday really, it just happens that Practical Classics will be at the lunch stop!
