I have a Punto 55S 1.1 ’96. A great little runner until the other day. I’m sure the recent wet weather has had something to do with it. I staggered home (1 mile) on what felt like half the cylinders. Next day I couldn’t start the engine at all. When turning the ignition the injector light sometimes stays on. (Code light always goes off). The engine turns but will not fire up. I’ve looked at several parts, ie the air filter, exhaust pipe (incase some larry has blocked it for a joke), the sparks and several connections.

What I have found is that sparks 2 & 3 look fine but 1 & 4 are dirty black. I ran a test across the coil and that seemed fine (although I’m not 100% on how to read these altometers). This could explain the rough riding the other day. I’ve reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery and have also examined the Lambda sensor. Still no joy though. I can smell petrol so I don’t think it’s a fuel starvation thing.

I’ve looked at several posts that seem very similar but there aren’t any with conclusive resolutions. I would be very interested if anyone has had this problem before and fixed it.

cheers

My punto did exactly that, it was lack of fuel.the gauge was out of sync and it ran out.
i had a problem starting it when fuel was put in.....to the point of having to suck fuel through the fuel pipe, almost like a diesel car requires bleeding, the pump was working but air was in the system.
sorry if this info is no use to you,has anyone else encountered these problems when running out of fuel?
